I'm a little confused as to this being titled and touted as a walk-around version and then Bob keeps putting emphasis on the temperature factor ("straight out of the fridge", "cool egg, warm egg", etc.). I realize this must be just for those situations when you can do that, but if you're performing it as walk-around wouldn't that essentially be NEVER?
How long do these retain their cool temp? I would guess not more than a few minutes in your pocket, but maybe that is another factor that makes people rave about these eggs. Please don't think I am being a party-pooper here, I plan on purchasing this effect, sounds GREAT to me. Just confused about how you are doing walk-around and having the egg feel cool. Thanks, Bill |

Bill,
Actually this is a very good question. Thank you for asking. First remember that this is Walk-around, not busking on the street. There is a huge difference. In Walk-around you are paid to be there to start with and it is typically indoors and there are facilities not available on the public street. In my case it would be high-end country clubs, receptions, parties, banquets, etc. Showtime is about 45 minutes per set. Yes! The cold egg will stay cold to the touch for that long indoors. It is ceramic. Storing an extra one in a plastic Easter egg will also give you a backup cold one for extra long gigs. Common sense should tell you that the more time you hold the egg the sooner it will get warm. When you see the routine, you'll realize that total exposure to heat is only about 2 minutes per performance of the trick. In a coat pocket in an air conditioned building, the temperature change is very slow. It will always be cool to touch since body temperature is 98.6 and commercial rooms are seldom over 70 degrees. (The other egg you purposefully hold to keep it warm. It also gets the bulk of the performance time.) Neither egg has to be any particular temperature as long as there is a noticeable difference. Thank you for your question. Hi Bob, thanks for clearing that up. I do the type of walk-around you describe, not street work. But rarely 45 minutes, more like 2-4 hours. In the past I've had to deal with the kitchen for certain effects that involved liquid or such. I always found it to be a real pain. Just something I now try to avoid. However, I do usually get friendly with the bar staff when possible. Nothing to do with embibing myself I assure you, I just try to be friendly with all the staff and the bar staff are usually always in the same place (not constantly moving) so I tend to strike up a rapport with them. They would probably be able to help me keep something cool in a glass of ice if need be, although it sounds like that probably isn't necessary from your reply.
Many times in the larger ballroooms the kitchen can be a good distance away and there is usually too much commotion in there for them to be bothered with my little egg. I stay out of their hair. But I don't know if the temperature aspect is really that important to the success of this trick anyway. I'm still trying to get my head around not breaking the egg into a glass, that's my favorite part of the trick. I'm curious if I can let it go for walk-around. I'm going to get one of your eggs though just for the regular silk to egg if nothing else. Sorry, can't make it to Nashville this year but thanks for the offer. Thanks again, Bill |

Bill,
I have had friends visit me in motel rooms and ask why I had cups of eggs in plastic bags submerged in ice. Now you Know! At times behind the bar there is a cup set up the same way for the magician. Bob Sanders Magic By Sander PS --- There have been many times when the last time I performed the trick for the night, a real egg got cracked! (In high end country clubs and hotel ballrooms, make sure it is not cracked into one of their expensive real crystal glasses! You know that is one of the reasons I had to come up with the Walk-around Silk to Egg Routine?) |

Bill,
It won't hurt to have extra ungimmicked eggs sitting in cups of ice to exchange for the one getting too warm. Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |

It is really nice idea to use S2E for walk around. I just want to make quick observation that a real white egg when painted(covered) with "FEVICOL" & dried keeps the egg strong. As Mr. Bob Sanders rightly said if you freeze the egg so prepared you can walk around with it for 4 hrs easily. I hope you try it out. Regards, Raj.
