Has anyone ever heard of the "Onion" method of marketing athat Paul Pacific supposedly uses? Ran across a reference on another forum and had never heard of it before.

I had a long series of PMs and phone conversations with Paul about this very method Peter.
To put it simply, it's brilliant. As you and I live so close together, I must tell you as a friend that I WILL NOT share it with you and will now call up Paul to notify him that you are not one to be advised. No offense sir. But that's my corner of the market in this town. 2 guys just can't use it with each being successful. All I can tell you is that I've completely stopped the cold calls, my marketing budget was cut by 3/4 and my bookings have remained steady. Perhaps if you PROMISE not to use it, then we could meet for coffee and I'll summarize it for you just to satisfy your curiosity. I like you as a friend, but you can not edge into this being so close in proximity to me. Paul is a genious though. I'm planning on driving up to meeting with him this summer, just so I can shake the man's hand...err...foot (I guess). Truthfully, he's a bit of an odd sort...but I'd assume all genious's are. Dunno. Even with a master's degree in math, I've never run into anyone who could take the summation of so many complex variables and boil them down into one easy cheesy, lemon squeezy marketing formula. I was not even skeptical to try it. It seemed so ummm, organic in nature. What's best, all it took was time to try. Really, there is NO cost involved...aside from the donation I made to Paul himself (even after his insistance that I not). However, the money I've saved thus far dwarfs the small tribute of thanks that I offered him. OK, I've said too much already. Call me for our coffee date and I'll share a glimpse of this plan if you PROMISE to leave it alone after that. |

Chad, from what I've heard Paul is in No need of money of any kind from any of us anyways, but that was a nice offer on your part.
Guess I'm gonna hafta give Paul a call and try to get him to continue our conversation regarding his method, it sounds fricken brilliant and easy too. Isn't he goona put this out in a book or something, wish he'd chime in here.

Wait a minute bare foot Paul Pacific has a marketing strategy, and he is giving it away to people who call him up. It is absolutely unheard of to have a new idea and not wanting to get rich on it. It can't possibly work, this is too good to be true, where is that bare foot prophet, I want to speak to him?

Actually, Chad, the best part about the Onion is that if there are two of you doing it correctly in the same area, you'll feed off each other and get MORE bookings.
I know it sounds counter-intuitive, but then so is everything else about the method! But I'm not sure Paul would appreciate it being discussed here. I would be shocked (and disappointed) if he releases this. Have you heard anything specific? |

I have to disagree whole heartedly James.
If those 2 were working the Onion as a team and actually coordinating efforts, then I'd be inclined to agree that there may in fact be exponential growth. However, 2 guys working independent of each other would ruin the effect for both. (I think). Actually, I don't really know if this is true. Maybe it is counter-intuitve like you say. I just wouldn't wanna try it. Not that it would cost any $...but if it ruined my current marketing scheme, then it would cost me $ to go back to the old method of mailings, uping my Google ranking, cold calling, etc... That's too much of a risk. And gosh, I hope Paul doesn't write a book on this. The method can not be taught in a book anyway. We'd just end up with a lot of hacks messing things up and ruining it for the rest of us. ...kinda like a micro-cosm of the magic world Al, you're a member of this staff. Lock this topic and burn the remains. I'm gettin' antsy with this being on a public forum. |

The Onion approach is incredible, but even better is when you combine it with the Pepper approach. I learned that one from an old Italian magician. Just be prepared for a hard role however.

Jim,
I don't know what the "Onion" method is but if it's anything like the "Paprika" method I learned in the early 90's....heck...I'd pay that $10.00 Ebook fee any day. |

Well I was trying to be mischevious as I really don't like Paul at all. So in the spirit of keeping me not banned, I was joking.
Paul certainly has kept this under wraps so to speak. Chad no worries, like most methods that work, this one will not leak out. People won't believe it can be done this way and won't even try. I think you are pretty safe. I can't really agree with James though either. Not sure how that would be benificial as if you are doing it alone, you can sort of book others and take a comission. Maybe James has a new twist though I am not familiar with. It will keep you very busy though, this is true.

Unfortunately, this may no longer be a secret. I have inside information that a prominent magic dealer over in England has got wind of the Onion method, and may shortly be releasing the entire system, cleverly disguised under a different name. All I can say at this stage is keep a look out for "The Clumsy Carrot" in the smalls section of a certain weekly publication.

Dean, looks like another story of independent thinking when it comes to the name.
I just got off the phone with Paul and I'm stoked and cannot wait to start trying out some of the techniques Paul mentioned to me, he didn't have much time to chat though as he was on his way out the door. I just wish I could've known about this stuff years ago.
