I was digging through my closet and I found a silk from card gimmick (I think that is what its called) that I bought several years ago but I can’t find the instructions and forgot how to do it. It’s Bee card with a metal wire/hook taped to the back of it. A silk is somehow wound on the wire and the card is BP’d and the silk appears. If anyone knows the setup and mechanics if this could you let me know?
Thanks |

That is a Don Wayne Card to silk if I'm not mistaken.

Alex,
You are correct. It is a Don Wayne Card to Silk. I could never get it to work to my satisfaction. |

Also Jeff McBride explains that gimmick on his "Manipulation without tears" dvd!
You have to roll up the silk, clip it between the card and the wire and take the card between the fingers and the thumb (thumb is on the face of the card) and on the back the ring and middle finger hold one end of the silk, if you now backpalm the card, the silk should with a wave roll out still between the two fingers! ...sorry for my english...Im german! |

I've never managed to work it to my satisfaction also.
If anyone has any ideas on how to use the thing let hear them.

I have used it at the beginning and end of card routines before.
I have found that at the beginning of a routine, I like to hold the silk in a finger palm position, and when I backpalm the card I throw the silk into the air. This works beautifully, and isn't very hard if you can backpalm a card well. As for using it at the end, Practice, Practice, Practice. Also, play around with how you roll the silk up. I have found a few ways that work better then others, like randomly rolling the silk into a ball and hoping for the best. =] Danton Day 27

...I also wanted to start my routine with a card in my hand, change into silk and produce a fan of cards out of the silk...but my problem was, that the silk has to be big enough (for the fan produce) but small enough to be hidden by the card at the beginnig! And of course how to get clean after the card to silk is backpalmed?

Yes, I love that DVD. There are many useful bits of info on it.
I believe Jeff shows how to do it without a gimmick (for the beginning of the routine) as well.

Yes he shows a couple of ways to perform the trick without a gimmick. But as you say it is limited to an opening effect. He shows you how to obtain the gimmick in the middle of an act and perform the card to silk. It's good stuff for sure!

I remember using that gimmick when I was a kid. I used it in conjunction with the interlocked card production. This way about six cards were produced via the interlock and then after the last card was produced, it changed into a silk.
But it was VERY tricky handling the interlock production with the silk attached to a card. The clean-up was to toss the silk into the air with the right and catch it in the left hand as the card was secretly transfered from the back palm to the front palm of the right hand. The right hand grabbed the corner of the silk and pulled the silk down through the fingers of left hand, when the right hand was down at my side, I dropped the card into my tail pocket. This worked well, but it required the use of a pair of tails. I somehow remember that the late Polish magician Salvano had a card to silk effect that was a bit similar to the Don Wayne version. I think that on one of his lecture videos he had a very effective clean-up where the card ended up on his table. On one of the early Copperfield specials he opened a routine with the Don Wayne card to silk. Except he was able to show both sides of the card before the trick. I think it might have been some sort of flap on the card that contained the silk gimmick. This is hard to describe but if you saw him do it, you would understand what I mean. Levent P.S. Also I found it necessary to tie a very tight knot at the corner of the silk. This made it easier to grab the silk between the tips of your middle and ring fingers for the card to silk production
