I saw the link to http://www.copyscape.com and typed in my domain name and got the surprise the same day it was posted.
Many asked me to email or call, so I did and got no response as of this time. I did email and give a call but no response yet. I do appriciate your concern but a mass email is unnecessary and threats of legal action which would not be carried out is not my way to deal with this. Use this as a learning tool in that it is easy to copy another's web site. Like I said before, I may have given hm permission, but I really don't remember doing that. I have helped many, but I don't recall every using my exact designs. There is always that outside chance I may have forgotten. I noticed my memory is not as good as it use to be.

LOL, it's ridiculous, isn't it.
I think he/she must've given up. I tried and the site can't be found by a search engine (until I posted it in the Café. Doh!) so how is he using the site? Handing out cards with the address on it? Won't people be surprised to see someone who doesn't look at all like him? Can he also make a ship in a bottle from balloons and owns a raccoon in a racing car?! My site has got to be pretty tricky to swipe. My name is even in the flash menu so I'd like to see him change that. I checked the WHOIS and there isn't much info on him. If anyone would like to e-mail him a fake booking enquiry and find out where he's based etc I'd be kind of interested and much obliged. Cheers, George |

I am beginning to put things together, and after talking with some KIDabra friends, I found out that Raffy the Clown is a KIDabra Member, therefore, it is like me to help another KIDabra Member out.
I still haven't heard from him, but I believe I might have given him permission to use my material, because it has no effect on me and my area of marketing. If this is true, then, I will offer him a new website, which I should have done in the first place. And Billy the Clown, you want a great website see B-Rad, he's really good at it. Dennis

Hehe Dennis I don't have that good of a site. It does what I want it too... gets me work in the Las Vegas area.
My site was Dennis old site... I just stole it and he made a new one. Nice of him to let me keep it. Thanks Dennis. Cheers, B-Rad Posted: Apr 1, 2008 9:25pm April Fools

The only way Raffy might be able to justify what he's done, in my opinion, is if Dennis did indeed give him permission to use his website as a starting place, and if he also intends to make so many changes that it will no longer look anything like Dennis's original. Dennis, you have a great attitude, and I'd probably be the same, but I can't get away from this feeling that someone who can't even come up with a few lines of thier own text to describe their show, must have one lousy show!
I shall follow this thread with interest..... |

Doug Roberts,
Having meet many persons within KIDabra, I will say only a hand ful really know how to design a simple web page. Many, especially older and female entertainers, do not have any computer knowledge at all. There are those who have chose to use KIDabra free web page creator, yet they don't know how to transfer that information to their own web page. I have made it my committment to help those KIDabra Members the best I can, and there has been many. Dennis

Ah...things are beginning to make a little more sense. But I'd like to add that the very first thing I ever did when I bought a computer and hooked it up to the internet, was to create my website. I had no computer knowledge, but I just clicked on the "build your own website" icon at the Orange home page (Now you have to know to first click on "email and communicate"). Really, anyone who can type can do it. If you can post a message here at the Café you can build your own website. I agree that once built, organising a web pointer, etc, is more complex. For this, I made several phone calls for help, but mostly I was guided by the Site Builder programme. I realise I was lucky to stumble on this on my first few minutes on the computer, but it also makes me wonder why folks don't even TRY to do it themselves?
Just think, your own website, your own original text, your own photos, and it will take you a couple of hours to create. Alternatively - pay someone $500 - $1000, and save the hassle. Will probably be "better", but maybe your website will just be a copy of someone else's, and the information will not be what you would choose to say. I suspect it only takes a few minutes to steal someone else's website. Sounds like a nice little earner for someone? ;) |

I did hear from Raffy the Clown, and yes, two summers ago, I gave him permission to use my website as a learning tool to understand how the buttons work and the red and white style.
Since Doug, knows very little about websites his neice, tried to do him a surprise favor and place the site on his website to evaluate the workings, for her webdesign course she was taking. She is in tears because of the many negative and harsh comments made about her uncle, who knew nothing of this. As I said earlier, I was honored that he choose my site, but I was a loss on why it was copied completely. Now I know, Doug Rafter is an honorable guy, and he is using my site for evaluations and his niece's web design course, as I said in a conversation two years ago. Again, I do not get upset over these things. The explanation is reasonable, and my offer still stands on helping him. As with many posts on the Café, Café members blast others when such action is unnecessary, there usually is some reasonable explaination to a situation. My mistake was making it public, without first emailing him and finding out the facts. My sincere apologies to Doug for making it public, and not handling it privately. Dennis PS the site wasn't "stolen", and he and his niece still have my permission to study it. It was just ironic the the search engines picked it up so quickly (1-day).

George,
There were some really nasty postings that were removed and some sent Doug email calling him some really bad names. What I was trying to covey, before we go "off the handle" getting all the facts should be a priority. I made the mistake of posting it without finding the facts, I was equally wrong. It isn't finger pointing, just a reminder that sometimes we say things we wish we hadn't. I understand the support, however, it doesn't change the fact, any website is vunerable to copying.

OK, I didn't know some had sent the lynch mob out!
I've had a few similair problems recently with my other site and found that staying calm and friendly did get things sorted a lot quicker (although it wasn't a tactical manouvre, I'm just far too lazy to get annoyed about anything!) George |

Dennis, it does sound like Raffy has done nothing wrong, and there has been a big misunderstanding. I was frankly astonished that anyone would bother to "steal" a website - but if permission had been given, and it was being used as an educational tool/starting block, then really it's fine, and I wish everyone involved the best of luck!

Also, to show good will, in this situation I sent Raffy a multi-page website that can be easily modified, specifically designed with magic and clowning as the theme. Hopefully, it will resolve this situation and know I sincerely want the best for him.
