Does anyone make a gravity english penny? Lassen said it wasn't possible, but I was wondering if anyone somehow has a english penny flipper, gravity or not and the source.

Hi jbk,
Hmmmm... Interesting. Can you elaborate as to why Todd said it wasn't possible? Jim |

He said they are way too thin. But my question is, aren't barbers thinner?

The barbers are thinner. I cant understand why not an english penny. If anyone can do it Todds the man so if he said no then its no. You can always try jamie schoolcraft and see what he says but maybe its a copper thing.

They are way to thin, copper is much more flimsy then silver.

Jamie has a quarter flipper, which is smaller and I would guess lighter than a EP. But then again, I don't really know, shoot him an email to see if he agrees.

I think Josh nailed it.... copper is too flimsy when milled that far down!

Schoolcraft Precision makes them, I have one. They make them in east african dimes too. They have some great looking aged ones

I have had made in the pasta couple of custom copper / silver flipper coins with the shell side being silver and the insert copper. This way I can show a copper and silver coin yet vanish the copper at will. This means it is half possible and I Know you can get a copper shell so on this bass the whole gaff should be makeable (if that's a word!!!) no problem.

You would think that they can make an english penny [ so why not a flipper coin.

I'm not sure if you guys know how a grav flipper works but I can;t imagine it working with the copper. maybe a regular flipper though. TWOCAN think of the other part of the gaff, it has nothing to do with the shell part

Yes, lassen said he could "try" a regular english penny flipper but why would a gravity flipper be so much different that it isn't possible. I have a 64 kennedy gravity flipper and by looks it is different, but not that different.

I'm almost 100% sure it could be made as a grav.
I checked out my Johnson Hopping Half c/s insert, measuring its thickness. Then, I measured the thickness of the insert part of my Schoolcraft quarter grav flipper. It's a difference of around two-thousandths of an inch.... basically the same. So, the two inner parts of the English penny hopping half should be able to be converted into a grav flipper. HOWEVER... if it was instead converted into a traditional flipper(edge-grooved), you'd be able to show the Kennedy side when it was in open position (covering the shell part), and you'd have a C/S flipper!
