So... Anyone seen it yet? What did you think?

I know it is based in part on a great book about the MIT blackjack team called Bringing Down the House. It is a great read even if you see the movie I am sure.
The team still exists in some form by the way. The guys they wrote the book about are an interesting group. I met a few of them over a period of time and they are incredible people. From the clips I saw they take theatrical license with some things, but it is Hollywood so I think that is ok. I do want to go see it for sure.

The reviews in my local paper were horrible. I intend to go check it out tomorrow afternoon anyway. I also loved the book and it's sequel, Busting Vegas.

I also enjoyed a documentary about the team. TLC or Discovery channel, maybe? At any rate you can find it on youtube (cut up into a billion pieces). I can't imagine some kind of Hollywood production not ruining a good story. I won't watch it unless it gets a ton of good reviews here at the Café.

Saw it last night. It was a fun movie. Not fantastic, but fun. Made me wished that I was that smart! LOL!

I remember watching the documentary years ago, very fascinating. The movie looks a little to Hollywood with its artistic license, but still gonna watch it.

I gotta tell you I count cards, have for years.
These guys were using shuffle tracking, they used inovative techniques, and they did things with the count that were incredible. A basic hi-lo count is pretty easy and gives you an advantage. BUT these guys were beyond compare man. Dicipline was the hallmark. As for Mr. X, what an excentric.

I haven't seen it yet, but I'm hoping to see it next week.
In my blog entry on the 21 movie, I include the full "Breaking Vegas" documentary about the MIT Blackjack team. |

I saw it Sunday. Loved it. I had low expectations and I really was surprised. It's been a long time since I've read the book. I believe the ending was COMPLETELY different. I may be mixing up the 2 books. I'll probably download the audio book and listen to it on the plane (to Vegas, where else?) in a few weeks.

I'm not asking for a spoiler, but what's the big deal about counting cards? There are at most 54 of them.
Is it that really that tricky? Yes, I'm serious. Also, gambling makes god cry.
Magic is doing improbable things with odd items that, under normal circumstances, would be unnessecary and quite often undesirable.

They use several decks.
Were you really really serious or did I just fall into some kind of trap. You're mistaken. God hates gamboling. Those woolly, little blighters jumping around, it really does the Almightys head in. george |

The newspaper I regularly read had some articles related to the movie '21' this weekend. In one, magician / comedian David Merry tells how he used to beat the house in Vegas by counting cards:
