I recently obtained an original set of Jerry Andrus linking pins. The pins are showing their age and are tarnished and discolored. It is my understanding that these pins are either made from brass or are brass plated. I think most safety pins nowadays are nickel plated. As such would a metal polish like "Brasso" help to restore the pins to a better condition? Thanks in advance for any help.

The Andrus pins are solid brass - if they are genuine Andrus pins, that is. The only sets I've seen were nickel plated but he may have made some without the plating. If they have a "gold" color to the metal then they aren't plated and can be cleaned with any metal polish approved for brass. If they ARE plated and some of the plating is wearing or flaking off, only re-plating will restore the original look.
