I would like to ring in on the 10 years of Steve Spill. If your looking for a DVD that will show how to make a living doing Comedy magic this is it. There are no explanations or this is how ya do it but it should not matter. The routines are commercial funny and practical. The Rubber pencil, The Bill in lemon( yes the one that started it all) and of course Steve's very very funny mind reading goose....I understand a couple of Steve's routine will soon be available from Bob Kohler we ll know this means it wont be cheap but it will be good.......

I would highly recommend this DVD

Thanks Steve

Agreed, the 10 Years DVD is great. Mike there are secrets revealed if you listen to the commentary feature. I watched the DVD a bunch of times but never listened to the commentary until after I met Steve at Magicopolis and he told me to check it out. I don't think I even realized there was a commentary (like they have on movie DVDs) since I don't know of any other magic DVDs that have em.

Anyone who likes the DVD will love the live show @ Magicopolis, besides comedy there is also drama and a lot more magic, the show is about two hours.

So again, Steve, I have to know what is the deal with the pix of you with celebrities and all the bunny ears at http://www.magicopolis.com and why doesn't your avatar look like your bunny ear pix?

Just a quick update.
Steve's Mindreading Goose and his brilliant handling and routine for the classic needle swallowing effect "Confessions of a Needle Swallower" are both ready for release direct from me. If you'd like to get on the mailing list and be the first to know the details send an email to: bobkohler@cox.net.

The initial release for both items will be next Monday. First come, first serve.

Mike: Interesting that you thought the commentary was like an Easter Egg, because in addition to the commentary the 10 Years DVD does have an Easter Egg. Click on the burning bunny as the flames arise and there you have it.

Leeman: Here’s the story behind the “rabbit ear” celebrity photos… A few months ago David Regal was the Genii coverboy. In that issue he was pictured with actors holding him in a headlock. Previously I never made a point of getting my photo taking with famous Magicopolis visitors (although we do keep a celebrity list which can be found at http://www.magicopolis.com under “Raves” ) but I really liked David’s idea of thematically linking the pictures, and ever since seeing that Genii , instead of the “headlock” I’ve been using the “rabbit ears” idea.

We are lucky that movie stars come to Magiciopolis, but unlike the millions who see their films, our show, Escape Reality, has only a cult following. However, all of you millions still have an opportunity to see our show. If there are enough of you, it is not impossible to hope that Escape Reality at Magicopolis will make new fans and lose its cult standing.

Enjoy the economic crisis, go to Magicopolis, http://www.magicopolis.com or the boxoffice 310 451 2241 is open daily 11am to 6pm. The New Year’s Eve edition of our show includes a big celebration with complimentary buffet, champagne toast, etc. Details on our website.

Now I understand about the bunny ear pix, but you didn't answer my other question. Why do you look so different in your website bunny ear pix than you do here on your avatar?

I don't think the authorities think I did it because they don't think I was there. But I think I would have done it if I had a shot at it.

Magicopolis:

I LOVE Good magic and I LOVE a great time… recently during a trip to Los Angeles, I was lucky enough to have BOTH!

During a quick turn-around trip to LA, the Magic Castle Swap Meet, and few fellow magi and myself made it a POINT to go and visit “Magicopolis” in Santa Monica.

Never having been there, I have no-idea what to expect accept that I KNEW Steve Spill was one of the most entertaining, clever and memorable magicians, comedians and performers I had the pleasure to both see and work with very many year prior. (1983 on a Bus n’ Truck Illusion Tour Through Canada)

When our rag-tag band of Reno magicians found the place (it was easy…) I was pleasantly surprised to see Steve Spill, himself, (The Owner) working the magic counter to the delight of the local evening’s show patrons and enthusiastic passers by. Usually, such fare is NOT the task of the “Star & Owner” of this well known magic hot spot… it was a treat to see! (For the audience as well as myself!)

I had NOT seen Steve for well over 25 years and was greeted as if it was yesterday… he even genuinely offered to take care of our show tickets for us. I respectfully declined as I LOVE to “support” live magic and I didn’t want to be beholden to him should I have decided to share an un-biased share and review as I am doing here, now.

We were treated to quite and evening of FUN and killer magic! It started with a full “Bar Show” with a quite likeable and charming, (Though still Bar magic Edgy… it was a good mix) extremely competent and witty performer who showed the crowd a good time! I’ll be honest, I don’t much remember the “tricks” but I sure remember having a great time… (That is a good sign!) and that was BEFORE the main showroom “Magicopolis Show” would begin!

It was FUN! Whoo hoo!

Steve was gracious enough to give me a quick, personal backstage (and around the campus) tour… I real workers lair! (I was jealous!) You could just smell the unpretentious professionalism and passion poured into the place, all at the expense of good-ol’-fashioned hard work and elbow grease! – He definitely had a real franchise enterprise on his hands here!

Complete with:
= Magic Shop
= Party Room
= Live Entertainment Bar (Plus drinks of choice, of course!)
= Full theatrical showroom with all the amenities!
…and more!

As a “BUSINESS” professional, it was good to see a real, solid magic establishment working like clockwork in spite of all the obvious challenges of doing so! (Especially in the current economy.)

After all the FUN, Laughter and Amazement at the “Bar Show” outside in the lobby/bar, we were ushered into the theater showroom in anticipation of the night’s entertainment, and were NOT disappointed in the least!

Remember, we were in town for the Castle Swap-Meet and having gone to the Castle the night before, seeing all the shows and enjoying all the attraction that the world-famous magic Castle has to offer, my friends and I agreed that THIS (Magicopolis) was the true entertainment/adventure highlight of our trip! (And this was the FIRST-TIME, some of my friends had ever been to the Castle OR Magicopolis… zero predisposition here.)

The “Magicopolis Show” was easily a high-quality, awe inspiring magic and illusion theatrical experience along with some of the best laugh-out-loud fun I (and my friends) have had in a good long while! I am certainly no “virgin” to live magic and theater, especially living in Nevada. (Reno & Las Vegas… etc) THIS was great fun!

The good news is, this show has “something for everyone” experienced theater goers and itinerant enthusiast alike!

=> AND it was fun for the ENTIRE Family!

How incredibly refreshing to enjoy, in this day n’ age, a sophisticated and still down-to-earth ‘family appropriate’ evening that was FAAAAR from a ‘kiddy’ show! This show ROCKED the attendees with all that you would expect of an established, world-class performer and business owner!

If you like GREAT Magic, Awe-Inspiring Illusions, killer Comedy, Solid Close-Up and an entire evening’s experience that you will remember for a lifetime, you can NOT do better than Magicopolis for a complete evening and events worth of fun and all that goes with it!

You’ve all read about the Levitation, Steve’s ORIGINAL (often imitated and stolen, NEVER Duplicated!) Mind-Reading Goose, his insane Matrix and the entire show package…

I for one offer “TWO BIG-FAT THUMBS UP” for myself and my compatriots as a MUST-SEE Highlight of The Sothern California magic Sean! – When in town, GO TO MAGICOPOLIS and Enjoy the time of your life!

Go see the dog-gone show, but be prepared to have a Ton O’ Fun!

Thanks for the Memories Steve!

I am at your service and In HIS Service,
Deano in Reno

LOL...I've viewed the DVD a dozen times, and it never occurred to me that there was an Easter egg on it. Thanks!

Unless Magicopolis opens a franchise here in Regina, Sask. Canada it's unlikely I will be able to attend this show...I wish Steve had family here!!! I have purchased Steve's DVD (even his vhs)and it is a treasure..... I have 10 of my best comedy dvd's on a shelf next to my left elbow in my practice room and Steve's is there......I too have e-mailed Bob hoping to be included in one of Steve's releases.....of course as with every effect, it must be presented through our own personality. So if anyone does any of Steve's releases, please don't move here!!! Don Stevenson (aka 'Ireland'... my dad's bithplace)

I thought the commentary feature was the only hidden gem on the DVD, now I find out about the easteregg a thing that was on fox tv which is good, but the amount of media coverage on the making of magicopolis feature is unbelievable. What's the secret to getting that kinda publicity?

The commentary on the DVD is informative and enertaining as well! The method is given for Steve's "Glass Shard" effect which is a kind of off beat slate writing routine. Very cool. Very unusual!
Thanks for the commentary track Steve!

I just want to chip in and say that Magicopolis was one of the highlights of my trip to LA earlier this year. Steve is one of my favourite tricky people and his show with his wife is a delight. He is the perfect magical host and made me feel very welcome. I know I'll be back. Thanks Steve,
Pete.
