Well, I guess it was inevitable but I stumbled across a few examples of exposure of the craft on youtube. I guess some will say that like TV shows that expose not many people car enough to watch, it has also been said that one can teach a group of people an effect and yet turn around and fool them with the same effect. the one I caught was poor explanation of a bill switch on youtube by a "jim18672". Give it a look and let the guy know what you feel about this exposure as well as his promise to offer more tutorials on magic on youtube. Here is his "JC cut" http://youtube.com/watch?v=oGhdhvgnPKY and his bill switch: http://youtube.com/watch?v=D8-07RyCNcE
again, drop him a line let him know how you feel.

I posted about the Kim Jong Il magic terrorist. It's sad, you're right. I see a lot of reveals on youtube. Mostly small kids trying to teach balducci levitation. Maybe I could email those users, pretending to be from the national association of autism in children and explain recent findings of children believing they can fly or do magic is a serious sign of autistic behavior. What do you think?

You make me very, VERY sad buddy.

Why on earth would you reveal a method that is the SOLE basis of income for thousands of magicians worldwide. People pay an ENORMOUS of money for these tricks. I can only imagine how they must feel when they see people like yourself perverting there cause and essentially 'stealing' their livelihoods.

I hope you get a kick out of ruining the excitement of magic. Get this video of Youtube NOW.

I love these videos. They create a category of magic as "tricks".

The more people that watch them, the better. As soon as they see my stuff they'll know to label it as something else.

Keep them coming!!!!!!

I'm curious to find out what the difference is between someone who exposes a trick on youtube and someone who posts a link of it here? (Hmmmm)

Dan I tend to agree, But I think I can understand Daniel's motivation. First it's assumed that most of us know how the Linking Rings are performed. I have to be honest and say until I saw that link..I did NOT know how it was done.

But his intent was to show what a loser is out there, trying to teach " The secret".

I have seen posts by youtubers that do not understand, that what they think is " the secret" is just the method. In Daniel's case I learned the method. But if I ever desired to learn to perform The Linking Rings, I would still go and get a DVD of a magician performing it. he can teach me " The secret". How to perform it, How to present it, where to misdirect... timing, psychology, and subtleties.

But I understand your point. That youtube was out there, and I never knew of it, until I came here. So maybe Dan has a point too.

No offense to DrNorth, but I was also referring to the links he provided as well. I personally have a difficult time when people want to point out youtube magic exposures by providing links to them in a open public forum here at the Café. Mother always told me that two wrongs never make a right, no matter how well intended it was. How do people find these exposures on youtube, that's my question? Not that I need an answer to that, and I hope no one answers it. But, it does make me wonder. Fish just don't jump in a boat, you usually have to troll for them.

You don't need to search for exposure vids on YouTube.

I searched for 'sponge balls' to watch some performances tonite - and half of what came up was exposure - fortunately some of the other half was some wonderful performances.

Ya, I know what you mean... I go Look for Tommy Wonder's Cups and Balls routine, and half of the "related" Posts are " Explanation of..."

I know people put up magic youtubes, I Just wish they would not put the name of the effect up with it. When you put up your performance of " Jazz Aces" Guess what is related to it? " explanation of ...Jazz Aces" So not only is there the possibility that a crappy performance of it will expose it, but a really good performance of it will also expose... because it is related to the explanations of same.

When I perform an effect I never name it... why should it have a name? I am performing magic... I think it would be cool if these kids didn't name the effect...that way it will not be related to the explanation as well.

I don't usually visit youtube, but I understand your point. But here's mine. You see an exposure video, you choose to watch it instead of ignoring it, you then expose the video and the trick by posting it here in an open forum for others to see while complaining about the person exposing a trick. Is it just me, or is there not something wrong with that?

What is it supposed to accomplish besides more exposure?

Yup, I agree. I was Just explaining how someone NOT looking for exposure video may end up seeing one.

I remember one time I was Looking for a particular type of performance, and smack dab in the middle right after performing it, the guy explains it. I think it was a Rip from Daryl's Three Card Monte DVD. I am watching him perform it, and enmjoying it, then as soon as he is finished I see " Explanation" I had to click it off asap... I am planning on buying it eventually.

But yes. Posting a link to a youtube explanation is as bad as Posting the link to begin with...since if someone did not know where it was, suddenly they know.

On the other hand, Dan Posted it to show what was ****ing him off. Another consideration is...someone that comes here, and sees those links... if he desired to learn the explanations would more than likely have seen them already.

So...How is his posting links a problem when if someone wanted to find them they already would have found them, and if someone wants to ignore them they can just ignore them?

How hard is it to google.."Linking Rings Explanation video"? If someone lurking here, wanted to learn the secret it would be as easy as that...no need to dig through our forums. If someone IS reading here, chances are they already are interested in magic. And chances are they already know how to perform it. So while I understand what you are saying..I feel that you are putting too much blame on Dan.

I am sure anyone that is interested in hunting down Tutorials for the linking rings ...Knows how to do so without Dan posting links to it.
