Stumbled across this video today, never heard of the guy... although I am sure that many of you have. Still, I felt compelled to share it here. Pretty amazing level of commitment to a stunt/trick.

Tim Cridland has worked on this one, as have I. I went so far as to have the the medical papers translated into English. If I recall correctly, one was in Portuguese (this may have already been translated into English) and one in Czech. I gave one translated copy to Tim after he shared some information about this act with me (I think he gave me the untranslated Czech article). I don't know of anyone else that has them and I don't think any translations other than those two exist.

The hypothesis put forth by the physician in that segment is absolutely and totally 110% idiotic. As a physician, myself, who does this exact "act" on other people several times a day, I must say that whoever they "hired" to consult and put forth a theory of how it was done, was a complete and total QUACK! She should be embarrassed. I am for her.

Since my job is to take big, honkin' needles and thrust them through people's lungs, abdomen and whatevet other parts you might think, so I kinda "know the real work" on this stunt. To further cement my proposal of the method, I presented the case of Mirin Dajo at an interdisciplinary medical conference that included Pulmonologists, Cardiothoracic surgeons, Interventional Radiologists (such as myself), and internists. We all agreed on the method.

Take it from me, that this is not an "act" that can be "learned". Mirin Dajo, like Waldo the Great, had something special about his anatomy in particular that made this feat possible (just not what that dippy doc said). Additionally, there is something about the sword that minimizes the danger (as much as that can be minimized).

The bottom line here is: don't PM me with "So how is it done? How would I do it." because the answer here is just don't do it, because YOU can't (being the "normal" person that you are).

How did THIS end up coming back? As a licensed professional body piercer of over 16 years, I highly recommend inserting an extra long 2 gauge barbell into the wound afterwards.
