The problem with mentalism for kids is that they already think their parents can read their minds anyway.

I don't do Mentalism for kids in my show. You can lose them fast trying to setup the effect. I think that it is better for Teens and Adults. That is just how I feel.

Deja Zoo works for kids. Depends in what age. Over, say 7 may work ok. And, as in even adults, some may get it and some won't.
I do mentalism for children on occasion. John |

I do the Bank Nite for kids. I present it like a game of chance on who wins the money in the right envelope and it works well for me.
You could also do it with the special padlock and keys in a box with a special prize. Of course, they never win it, hehehe.

According to all field reports and reviews, my 3 No Evil seems to be doing very well with kids...ages 8 and above.
It's a prediction with an interesting story.

Like James, I also do a book test in my elementary school show- I published it in David Kaye's (Silly Billy's) column in MAGIC a few years back. Normally the low age for that routine is 3rd grade (8 years old, approximately).
I also perform Sammy Smith's "What's My Job" for my school assembly shows, and that one I will do for kids as young as 1st grade. To be honest, I don't know half the time if the youngest kids are reacting to the correct prediction or the baby gag, but I'm not worried as long as they're reacting at all. Mark Strivings had some material he wrote a few years back about doing mentalism for REALLY young kids- ie 4-5 year olds. I'm not sure how easy that material (or Mark) would be to find, but it's worth the hunt, I'm sure. |

I can't remember the name of the effect that I use from time to time in my shows. It uses a c*l**ring book format and is broken into three sections that make up a face. You flip through the top part of the book and the kids pick a hat/hairdo, then you do the same for the eyes/nose and finally with the bottom to pick a mouth. The effect with this is of course that they kids determine a unique character by mixing and matching the different parts. The effect ends with the revelation of the identical picture which has been in plain sight the entire time.
Another alternative to mentalism for kids is just to be mental with the kids. Just a suggestion. jeff |

Critter Knitter its the name of the effect, its created by Selina Frederick and marketed by Samuel P.Smith. Provide a great entertainment piece for kids shows with a touch of mentalism!
Thanks for the suggestion, Hansel!

There is a dvd of Gaetan Bloom, I don't remember the prop, but it has to do with picking off about 9 large nails attached from a suitcase. When each neail is removed, a small prize on a key chain falls off. The last nail is always the grand prize (money bills). I made one out of wood and plexiglass and this works well for the kids, too.
