I love watching cardmen perform - but I must admit that it was really refreshing to watch a Brit do his take on some really wonderful effects - instead of an American.
Don't get me wrong it was just nice to see some different humour, and different audiences and a different magician perfom some killer card effects. We all think differently after all! If only the method for 'the Restoration' was on there!!!! I really like this video. Its worth watching, just to see something done beautifully. |

If you get his book and combine that with watching his video performances then you will have it. He will never release the Restoration method on video again unfortunately.

is this a 'teaching' video or performance only?
|
|||||||||
craig fothers Loyal user 215 Posts |
both! The performances are from the various shows and whatnot that Guy has done... and then he goes on to explain the workings of the effect etc...
with one exception. he doesnt reveal the method for 'The Reformation' in the video which really annoys me... but i truly love this video just the same. |

While I have never seen the video, I have seen Guy perform Reformation and have Drawing Room Deceptions. In is well written and explains Reformation in detail so if you pick up the book from a dealer you can learn the routine.

HI,
Craig, if you can snag one, there are some copies a video of Reformation that Guy released at --I think-- his first lecture before he realised how popular the routine would be. Phillip I had already learned it fron the book when I saw the vid. I have my own method now. Phillip |

Did anyone else watch the first routine on the Video (an Aces to pocket thing) and think it was a joke, a non-magic gag opener? Surely the easiest way to produce an Ace from each pocket would be to have one in each pocket prior to performing rather than an elaborate palming and shifting things around under the jacket?? Did I just miss the point?

Jim Morton is correct.
I think the tape is good. I really like the Cassandra Quandry. His book is worth getting as well. I just like how it is laid out. You could tell that alot of effort went into it.

I would like to sum up Routines, as well as Guy's other works, in three words: Different, Strong, Elegant.

Guy Hollingworth´s video "The London Collection" (1996)is a good one, seven hardcore card effects. The movie is filmed on the streets in London with the backdrop of this historic city. 100 minutes.
Routines: Waving the Aces, The Easy Way Home, Waves of water, The The Ambidextrous Interchange, New material plus LÁrc de Triomphe. These routines will require a considerable amount of practise. Strong effects that is fun to watch. |

Guy's stuff is great and in addition to being a great creator, he has a great personality.

Is there any gimmick required to do Hollingworth's Reformation.....if not then what is his quartet card for?

Well, it's not really a gimmick though is it? I'll put it this way, the thing you're hiding is no different to the thing you hide in every other T&R card routine.

I am a huge fan of Guy's and I buy nearly everything he releases. His book "Drawing Room Deceptions" is one of my all-time favorites; I would have easily paid the price of the book to learn "The Reformation" (which is covered in great detail), so all the other great effects (most notably, "Waving the Aces") are simply a bonus! A great value.
"Routines" is a nice complement to the book, and it allows you to see Guy's performance style. He's a class act. I'd also put in a plug for the Quartet gimmick - the manuscript that accompanies the gimmick contains ten effects, all of which are explained in detail (and are presented in order of simplicity so the reader can build upon his/her experience in subsequent effects). Very highly recommended. Take care - Mark |

Drawing Room Deceptions is now "out of print" Be sure and pick up a copy while you can!
I just got the Routines video. wow. I like it even more than London Collection. It occured to me that to do his Travellers, you don't even need to have any coat pockets! I already knew the methods from reading the book, but seeing it performed on video was well worth it. Highlights for me included seeing his gambling routine, and him performing card at any number on Monday night Magic. He really showed what a funny and charismatic performer he really is. I wish he would come back to the US to do some lectures. |
