Heya gang...
Just HAD to post about my recent victory! I got the call tonight that I've been hired as a 'strolling variety act' in the number ONE venue here in town!! (Tourist town with LOTS of venues!) I'll be doing Magic, Voices, Ventriloquism, and of COURSE my Juggling.... To say the least, I'm jazzed! This gig is going to not only pay me very well, it's going to get me the kind of exposure that I've prayed for for nearly 5 years since landing here... The coolest part of it is that THEY (being the production company that has hired me) are THRILLED to have me.... I'm sorry, but that just feels SOOOOOO good! Right now my head is buzzing with old scripts/acts to resurrect and new stuff to add into my mix.... I feel like I've been born again! It's good to be 'back out there', if you know what I mean! Prof. Piper

Thanks a ton fellers!
I'm busy now dusting off some old routines and working on new stuff... I'm HOPING to have 5 balls in the air solidly again soon, will be cool to have that in the arsenal.... Since this venue will not allow fire juggling, period, I'm going to go for the illuminated balls from Dube (the color changing ones) and maybe the illuminated rings from Renegade (I'll probably hold off on these though, due to the venue being outdoors and wind being a factor with the rings).... I just thought, since I can't do the fire stuff, the illuminated would be the best alternative... Now, to save some pennies so I can get three of them beauties from Dube! lol Thanks again guys! Prof. Piper

While strolling I'll be expected to assist visitors with directions/picture taking/etc, as well as entertain them, then obviously during shows give them that 'extra-sumpin' that they didn't expect when they went down to the shore to shop.... All in all, it's fantastic exposure, good money, and the 'break' I've been working for.... Now to customize my show and other bits to fit into this new venue!! Work to be done, for sure... But it's FUN work, ya dig? Thanks! Prof. Piper

Ok well as important as good props and tricks are make sure to eithe rhave your own cards to distribute or if the agency that has hired you would prefer get some of theirs to hand out and prior to the show print your name and what you do on them. This way people will be able to contact and the show will turn into more work. Also try to obtain testimonials from those relevent and any photos/media you can. If there is news coverage get infront of it!
Make sure to tae the optertunity and run with it! Good shows turn into more good shows. ATG |

Anton...
Very good advice and things I already have working (biz cards and such)....As far as the media aspect goes, I've been assured they intend to highlight me (and the other entertainers) pretty heavily.... Make no mistake, I'm going to grab onto every opportunity for further work that comes along, no matter how big or small it may be! I'm 'in it, to win it', so to speak! Thanks pal! Prof. Piper

No problem.
Be at your best and Im sure you will be more than happy at the end of the night. When is the event if you don't mind me asking? ATG p.s. don't forget about the testimonials. I often have a small leather memo book for people to jot them down in. Works great for me! |

Anton...
you misunderstand, this isn't a one time gig...It's a running, 40 hour a week, season long (if not year long) employment.... With supervisors who are MORE than willing to work the schedule around outside gigs.... This is why I'm so jazzed, this is like getting a theater show, almost! As for the testimonials, the venue has a "Guest Services" booth where folks can leave their comments, I intended to use those cards/notes for my testimonial page(s)... Thanks again! Prof. Piper

I can only hope the good bits do end up on YouTube!! (Just no moments of uncontrolled gravity, if ya get what I mean...) Thanks again for all the positive posts, I go to fill out all the paperwork this coming week and work out my schedule... In the mean time I've been practising like mad!! It's fun to be excited again, ya know? All the best! Prof. Piper

Hey Professor!
So when does the gig start? I'm looking forward to a report on how it's going once you get started. Mike |

Hey Mike...
If you go over to "The Sidewalk Shuffle" you'll see a pretty detailed post about my first outting at the new venue... I haven't got to go out again yet (day job), but the 'hourly paying part' of the gig is coming pretty quick (like 2-3 weeks)....The Venue will be paying me a pretty sweet hourly rate to do my "Strolling Entertainer" bit (Juggling, Magic, Vent, Comedy, Voices, general sillyness, etc) for around 20+ hours a week (they decided to only do my part for 20 hours a week, versus the 40 I was hoping for, oh well)....On off times, I'm allow to Busk for tips.... Add into that my 'regular' job is in the same location (save GAS), this is a HUGE blessing for us this year... To give you the 'Reader's Digest' on my first outting, I had a really decent Hat for the 2 hours or so I was out there and it's looking like it's gonna be a great/solid venue. And Brian (Dube) would be proud....I did my 'hap-hazard' knife juggling routine with NO drops/flaws....Went over great. Thanks for the interest, I'm planning on Blogging/Posting about my time down there this summer here on the Café. Have a GREAT day tomorrow! Prof. Piper
