For many years now I have performed a diary test I made.
I was wanting some background on the idea I had because I don't believe its my own..

the effect is a spectator names a date '12.03.2000'
the year is not important..
the magi takes from his pocket a diary and proceeds to explain the hystory of playing card ending with a statement saying that certain cards can be associated to certain dates throuhout the year, and some of these are repeted etc etc etc ..
the date is looked for in the diary and next to the date '12.03' is written a playing card the 10 spades for example ...the date b4 and after are different cards

the magi then produces from the diary an envelope inside the envelope a card , that's right the 10 spades...big applause and a few gasps....
any help on where this may have come from or anything similar..
will not tip the method so don't ask....sorry

John Cornelius had a date book that is similar in concept to this. Paul Green also produced the Fortune Teller's Book of Days, which is a similar concept.

Neither of them specifies the use of an envelope, but that would not be a big step, especially in the case of Paul's book.

You could also check out "Chronologue" from Viking Magic, if it is in stock. Uses envelopes and two date books though. For my money I have been using Paul Green's "Fortune Teller's Book of Days" exclusively for the last several years.

Cheers! Smile

Leave it to magicians to turn a diary into a card trick.

Or worse, turn a card trick into a prayer book.
