It seems there is allot of information and even MORE misinformation.. so let me run down some of the rules of a top 10 placement.. and feel free to email me with questions..
Also SEO has changed, but is very much alive. the major change.. most of SEO after a site is designed correctly is done OFF site.. Content is Important.. and when I say content I simple mean "Pages" within your website. Each page needs to have something of value (or the links to it should be NoFollow, because its still debated as to whether google ignores nofollow or not) The top 3 Google, Yahoo, MSN all look for different things.. with different algorithms on how they list pages. Keep that in mind. They list PAGES not entire sites.. If your site is fully indexed then your Lucky cause Not even NASA is fully indexed. the problem.. you need to have context within the content.. so you need LINKS coming to your pages that are relevant the problem with most of your sites.. you list EVERY keyword in your meta tags that you want your SITE to list for.. not every page on your site is relevant to every keyword.. Humans look at websites in a whole.. search engines look at them as individual files.. check this out go to google and type this in the search box cache:www.yourdomain.com/pageyouwanttosee or just your domain.. then click (TEXT ONLY VERSION) That's what google See's The goal.. to give people what they need to call you and book.. while giving Google what it wants to list you appropriately.. so Rule number 1 1. Think of each page of your site individually.. content on that page should be working on listing for 1 or 2 terms MAX Link that page (inside the content) to other pages relevant to the Keywords. Have multiple pages per keywords you want to list for.. (this is how you work on multiple listings) Use headers to separate information.. make it normal and polite to visitors.. 2. Include the keyphrase you want to rank for in your title. DO NOT just make the key phrase your title. keep in mind the blue text of google's links to your site is the title tag and the text is the description by knowing this your increasing your click through rating.. 3. build a STRONG keyword strategy.. you need to know the difference between what your clients look for and what everyone here is looking for.. who cares if you rank 3 times on the front page for "magic castle magician" most of our clients have never heard of it.. at the end of the day it doesn't matter how well you rank but how much money it made ya.. 4. Links links links This information is easily found but MOST people don't know what they are looking at.. go to google.. in the search type in "Click Here" when I just did the search I found that there are over 1.4 billion pages indexed for this phrase.. but look at the top pages listed the top 10 include adobe apple real java paypal most of these sites don't really use the text click here but how many sites out there link to Adobe with the text "Click here" to download adobe acrobat reader.. with enough links with the correct key phrase (your site needs to be relevant to the link text) I can rank #1 on anything.. the problem with this is it takes time and money.. ... and MOST importantly.. NO SITE is ever Finished.. always work on new content and new pages.. OK so enough of my soap box.. back to working on my new show.. and editing some video for my show

Mike,
I've done a lot of work with SEM, even going so far as becoming GAP certified. I'm pretty happy with the SEM results I'm getting but would like to be getting better results on the SEO side. I read "SEO For Dummies" and your comments are consistent with what I read in the book. I'm curious though, when you say "the problem with this is it takes time and money", where does the "money" come in? Kind regards, Cesar |

The "Money" for back links would come into it if your buying back links and the only way to get thousands of these a month it to pay for them (well at least to get them consistently)
the more links you want the more money it will take.. are there shortcuts YES! but the shortcuts usually have consequences... and they usually cost money.. Your best bet is to naturally build your back links over time.. but constantly work on building them.. One of the best ways I have found to get back links has been through using social bookmarking sites and Twitter.. I do a update on the site then tell my followers in twitter.. then send them a msg to remind them if they like the new page to bookmark it on Digg, MrWong, and so on... That has started to really get me more back links and once I get my new site (I really need a day to just sit here and work) up and running I will send yall the site and let ya look at it mentioning SEM one word... Ah yes Joshua
I agree with you about SEO common activities Google doesn't like you to have too many key words, and meta tags. You will get far better resulte with just the most appropriate key words, and meta tags.

A link buying service that I would recommend??
there realy arnt services out there that you can trust.. your best bet is to look at who is linking to your competition and get links from the same places.. the more your do these types of things the more ideas to get links will pop into your head.. There are companies that will social bookmark your site (I use them from time to time) and they have GREAT quick but short lived success.. these will get you quick ranking but you need to add content to justify the ranking long term if you want a good social bookmarking company PM me.. I will refer a couple of people to who I use..

I lost a lot of my placement because I am redoing and rebranding my website..
I am however still in the top 10 on a handful of the 15 LOCAL key phrases I want to list for but am no longer in position 1 on any of them.,.. (was listing in top 5 on 13 of them before the redesign and relaunch) should be back up there within the month as I get all my content put back into my site.. also I am expanding my business and will be aiming for a new list of keywords.. the ones that I am still listing for are money terms (I know that people typin that phrase have a tendency to call and book) at the same time... Back Links is only a small portion of my overall internet marketing strategy Very few of my sites (yes I run multiple sites but have one that is my primary site) do I need to buy links, its a quick way to get placement while you are working on content.. or a way to push a 2nd page to top 10 placement to achieve a double listing.. I am always trying new SEO ideas on my 2ndary sites and if it works move that to my primary site... the redesign is because of this testing that I do

I'm glad it is working for you because (with all due respect) I couldn't figure your advise out at all. For the record I have one web site that has been in the top ten of two meta tags at Google and most other popular search engines for the past ten years.

Sorry about that.. what part didn't you get?? I teach this stuff (used to do it full time but got bored with it) and have a habit of using SEO Buzz words without defining the terms... your rating so high mostly because of the age of the site.. that plays into it and since MOST people in the entertainment industry don't have a clue on the REAL in's and Out's of this its easy.. To pay for my SEO and to keep my knowledge fresh I keep just enough clients to afford to know whats, what... and my websites are by far the easiest to get listing for.. Got one guy who runs a discount travel site.. his site actually takes work.. but yeah if I say something and am not clear ask me to clarify.. I'm just here to meet more entertainers and hopefully make some new friends
