I'm going to be ordering the "Roped In" DVD by Aldo Colombini and wondered if anyone has seen this or has any thoughts on it? For only $10, one can hardly go wrong! What do you think?

The silk tied to rope which visibly jumps free; still tied in a genuine knot is my origination. So is the rope thru neck; all used with full permission. I am tickled that Aldo likes my rope magic. I am biased of course. But any Colombini material for only ten dollars is a tremendous bargain.

Aldo took his entire collection of lecture material and broke it up into segments. So the point of purchase is that you get what you want from his material rather than settle for the entire collection that contains items you wouldn't perform.
-------- There are very pleasant elements of Aldo's rope. I personally like his ring and rope, but I am a fan of the 3 ring routine. -------- The silk tied to a rope which comes free has been around since print was available. So has the rope thru neck. So, how old are you Kotah?

I really like the Professor's Math effect. Rather than just making the three equal-length ropes unequal in length as an ending, the sliding and jumping knots make a pleasing ending, much like Magic Ian's Professor's Nightmare.
Edit: That is not to say that the "normal" ending to Professor's Nightmare is unpleasant, just that these other endings are even better in my mind. |

Magicians, I am well aware of what has been around for a long time. I said these are my versions. Obviously different enough that Aldo chose to use them. Peter Warlock once compared my creativity to that of Tom Sellers. Considered me a rope expert. My version of the PN in my L.R. Parade was called one of the best ever created, by Phil Wilmarth.
To answer your question, I am 63. Whatever that has to do with anything. I found your question and its implication quite condescending. My other material is in my books, Tribute To a Rope WOrker, Hung, Up on Ropes; Ropes With a Different Twist. Cordially yours and others printed by Hicky Hades, Tannens and others. KOTAH |

Nothing meant by my questions, I was just curious as Aldo does not give you credit. There are also many "whipper-snappers" who come along and make claims to have created the basics of cut and restored or something like rope thru neck.
You might want to preface where we can get your books (booklets?). I would rather get original material from you rather than from Aldo. I had asked how old you were because I remember reading rope thru neck routines as far back as 1919 not to mention Tarbell. Having associated with Walter Gibson, Vernon, and George Sands when I was younger I just wondered who you were behind the name.

Magician: Here is a trivia question; the answer for which cannot be found on Google. Who was the first magician to perform using colored rope? Here's a hint, he was a contributor to The Dragon. In fact his suggestions for the best color of rope to use on stage, was printed in that early publication.

Is "Brainstorm in my Pajamas" your newest book, or do you have something else that might be your most current book. Will you be doing some DVD's at all?
\---------- The colored rope might be Ted Collins? Or Dick Zimmerman? Just a wild guess.

Magicians, you knew some of the best in your younger days. I tend to get a bit testy when my credibility comes into play. Forgive me. R.C. Buff was the first to use colored rope. MIcky Hades still carries some of my first rope books. Leaping Lizards is releasing my work on the PN. "PN, The Awakening. 2o full routines. Soon to follow,; a DVD with almost fifty of my rope effects.

You know, your name (Dayton) came up in conversation the other day when it was mentioned that you had the PN book coming out. I had just released my dances with ropes effect and was concerned that we may have had some similar handling. Count me in on your DVD and the book.

Back on the DVD, I'm not a fan of rope magic, but these effects are so simple and direct, I loved it. Amazing value.

Yes, I guessed R.C. Buff right away. I had a red, white and blue rope effect of his, years ago as a teenager. Ronald J. Dayton, doesn't Abbott's publish some of your material from the Tops Magazine. Have followed you for years, it would be nice to see your material on video/DVD.

Mr Hegbli. R.C Buff was a good friend for many years. I had a sundial he sent to me inmy back yard until his own sun set and the passage of time and correspondence stopped. I did plant a dog wood tree in his memory. I do have a rope DVD available from Leaping Lizards magic. THeir banner is here on the Café. Micky Hades still carries several of my rope books and Tannens did my paperback "HUng Up On Ropes.
I am currently involved in writing tales and routines for BIzarrists. Several may be read on Karl Bartoni's site Dragonskull UK. My interest in rope magic however is not dead. The moves and innovations Magic Ian has devised are among the very best to be had. Thank you for your comments, and for following my career such as it is. Sincerely, Ron Dayton, aka Kotah |

I really like this DVD from Aldo. He offers a lot of insight for each effect and how best to use them, and with which effects they blend best. This collection is great because you can easily flow from one effect to another, and you can use as many or as little of them as you choose, whether as full routines themselves or as little interludes to other effects. I really enjoyed this DVD and highly recommended.
As far as price, anything from Aldo Colombini at $10 is a steal! |

I for one will sure miss Aldo and Rachael from the lecture circuit. He knows how to entertain and not just present magical puzzles.

Don't believe the hype behind the lecture circuit, he will be doing lectures after he rests up a bit.

Recently saw Colombini lecture in Asheville, he had a book/dvd on comedy bits of business. Not jokes and one liners, but comedy bits to do between tricks. I forgot the name of the book though. Anyone who has seen his lecture know the name of the book/dvd?
Thanks |
