The secret is out: Paula Abdul critiqued Jason Castro's performance BEFORE he even sang it! How could she have known? The things that make you go hmmm....

I believe it was explained that they do a rehearsal of the songs so she just thought she had heard it twice at that moment. I know most shows are rehearsed once or twice before going on air and a lot of the time the guests and audience are there throughout the rehearsals.

Actually, she explained it off by saying she was reading her notes for David Cook - which makes no sense either, since she told David Cook he did a great job. I believe she has since changed her story to a better sounding one (the rehearsal one).

But even if she was commenting on what she saw in rehearsal (a claim I've made for years), then that's still just not kewl - the judges shouldn't be allowed at rehearsal, they should judge their actual performance ... not their practice sessions.

Regardless of why she did it, and I do understand that everyone can make mistakes, the time has come for Paula to be replaced by someone who actually knows what day of the week it is.
I don't think the show is rigged but that has done a lot to create new conspiracy theories.

I know Paula is a little flighty at times, but I really think this was just a regular confusing moment on her part. When shows are shot sometimes there are various things going on at the same time. Paula could have been in a shot that she needed to be at the time and the rehearsal was going on or they were checking a lighting cue or countless other things that make crew, cast and others be around at the same time.

I don't think there's a dark reason for what happened.

The judges don't even watch the performances during the show. Sure, they're out there, and if somebody messes up in a big way, they say something. However, almost all of their comments are cribbed from the rehersals.

Paula Abdul had already seen all of the performances. Simon is pretty notorious for never even paying attention during the "show" version.

Still, she was pretty messed up in that video. It will be interesting to see what her state, combined with the destruction of an illusion many people held about the show, does to the show's ratings in the future.

I never watched American Idol until this year. My wife recorded the episodes on the DVR and last Sunday we watched most of them. When you fast forward all the fluff, it only takes 20 minutes tops to watch an episode.

I didn't see last nights episode but if Cook doesn't win, its fixed.

It's rigged all right - rigged to foist ersatz talent on a gullible and critical perception-challenged public.

The producers decided to change the format to speed production. They ask the judges to make notes and give all the critiques at once. To compound the felony, they waited to show time to announce it. If you've seen Paula's reality , you know she doesn't do improv well.

Contrary to popular belief the point of AI is not a talent search; AI is about the characters that the actors Paula, Simon and Randy play. As such, I would be highly surprised if their characters' comments and critiques were not scripted by professional writers.

I've said this before but I'll say it again.

The public votes the worst two and then the judges vote one off. I know a force like that.
