Check out this story, headlined Central Washington offers the ultimate act of sportsmanship.
After hitting her very first home run, college senior Sara Tucholsky of Western Oregon tore a ligament at first base. At this point, she's writhing in pain, and figures she's just lost her chance to score on her very first home run. Two player from the opposing team, after conferring with the umpires, then pick Sara up, carry her around so she can tag the other bases and home, in order for her run to count! WOW! Just WOW! If someone ever asks you what sportsmanship is, show them this story! |

The last paragraph says it all.
"I think that happening on Senior Day, it showed the character of our team," Holtman said. "Because granted I thought of it, but everyone else would have done it. It's something people will talk about for Senior Day. They won't talk about who got hits and what happened and who won; they'll talk about that. And it's kind of a nice way to go out, because it shows what our program is about and the kind of people we have here." Great story. |

Very cool!
I've torn ACLs in both knees (and had them replaced with dead guys' tendons), but neither one hurt a bit nor swelled much. Fifteen years later I'm running on trail and horseback riding. With surgery and physical therapy Sara should recover just fine, thank goodness. |

Is it true that in the next inning Western Oregon let a Central Washington player lay down a bunt and run around the bases as a "make up" score?

LOL...reminds me of the story Mickey Mantle told of his gift Home-run from Denny McLain on his last at bat at Tiger Stadium in 1968.
So we're losing 6-0. (Pitcher Denny) McLain strolls toward the plate, beckons to his catcher, Bill Freehan, then says loud enough for me to hear, 'I'm gonna let him hit one.' I look at Freehan. 'Is he setting me up for something?' 'No Mick. He wants you to hit one.' Sure enough, a juicy fastball right down the middle. I hit it as well as I ever hit a baseball – my 535th home run into the upper deck. I'm grateful that he gave me...a most generous gift. I shake hands with Joe Pepitone, the next batter, and run into the dugout. Joe steps in and holds his hand out in the strike zone, about waist high. 'Right here,' he says. So Denny knocks him down. Actually, I've finally figured out that it's not the alcohol making me see a different Justin Style avatar every time I log in.
