"I've got dreams to remember" by Otis Redding stops me in my tracks every time I hear it play. I keep it in the oldies play list on my ipod.

There is also Pavarotti's rendition of "Vesi La Giubba" from Pagliacci. For those who are not familiar with this opra classic Smokey Robbinson made a Motown version of this Italian tragedy called "The tears of a clown"

I always get a welling in my eyes when I listen to Italian Operas. I don't know why since I don't know the language. Something about the soaring voices maybe...
One time, when I was young, I botched a sleight so bad, Vernon, Marlo & Miller rolled over in their graves. But I didn't see Elmsley, probably because he was behind the others.

It's not a sad song, but it will make you cry if you have daughters... "Cinderella", by Steven Curtis Chapman...

AT first,I thought this thread referred to Sad songs that are so sad that we don't like them, so I was surprised that the songs that have been listed are those the posters enjoy listening to repeatedly. Anyway, let me go with my original reaction, i.e., listing a song that struck me as so depressing that I do NOT like it at all. The title is "Sad Movies Make Me Cry." The song is done in a story form. The girl's boyfriend says he can not see her tonight because he's busy. So the girl goes to a movie, and right in the middle of the movie, her boyfriend comes in and sits in front of her with ANOTHER girl! Of course, the boy does Not know that his girlfriend is sitting right behind. The DEVASTATED girl does Not say anything but just sits there sobbing, hence the song's title. As I said, this song strikes me as so depressing that whenever it comes on the radio, I turn it off.

Ever hear the song that the late Chet Atkins made famous about his dad? Called "I still can't Say Goodbye."

I guarantee you it's a tear jerker of industrial strength, to quote his own words.

I recall vividly seeing him perform it live in a concert, and after it was over, I turned to look on either side of me, and everywhere I looked in the audience I saw wet eyes.

Especially if you have fond memories of your dad, it'll getcha.

And yes, that's Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits at 2:36 in the video. He did a duo album with Chet a while back.
The difficult must become easy, the easy beautiful and the beautiful magical.

As the father of a daughter, it would be the terribly sappy "Butterfly Kisses". It was popular when my daughter was about 7...and I still can't listen to it.

Two songs from The Moody Blues that used to get me everytime I heard them.

1. All that is Real.
2. Haunted.

Both are from there Strange Times album.

Because of what was going on in My life at the time that album was released when I heard those two songs it always produced tears for me. I was even afraid of going to there concert at that time because I knew if they performed those two songs It would affect me. Now I can listen to them with no problem. But back then I couldn't even think of the songs with out it hitting me.

Because of the movie City of Angels - Iris - by the goo goo dolls. I never go to the movies because I always cry. I like the safety of my own home.

It's a sad song, but a beautiful one, too. I wish I'd have played it for my Dad before he died.

Hey Hey Hey
It is not fair naming country and western songs. If they counted there wouldn't be room for anything else.

He Stopped Loving Her Today - George Jones

Tears In Heaven - Eric Clapton

I Loved Her First -
(Same kind athing on this one as ClintonMagus said about his song choice. It's not that sad, but as a father of two daughters, it had me blubbering.)
