Hi, all:

I recently did my first comedy club performance and have posted the video on YouTube. Your comments and constructive criticisms are welcome. Please keep in mind that this was the first performance of this material.

WARNING: STRONG LANGUAGE, ADULT HUMOR, REPUBLICAN JOKES!

Thanks for watching.

Congratulations Bob.

Thanks for sharing this.

Excellent manipulation, lip control and strong development of your character Lucille. You also seem to connect nicely with your audience (and --that Lucille... she really "wants" to "connect"! lol).

Can you tell us how much you felt connected to the audience? They seemed to be with you for the whole ride and laughing all along the way.

Keep up the great work!

Bob,
Great material, great job! I agree with Jonathan, the audience stayed with you. The only thing I could offer as something to work on would be not "sounding" scripted (although this wasn't a major issue), and also varying the pace a little. Love it!

Thank you all for your kind comments and helpful suggestions.

Wanlu: Having enjoyed many of your videos, I was glad to entertain you back!

Tom: Thanks! See you at the ConVENTion. I'm performing at an Open Mike there with a clean version of this act.

Jonathan: I think I got a good initial reaction because the comic before me went on too long and was terrible. I suspect the audience was glad just to see someone else. I did notice that they were laughing before I said a word; I think Lucille's appearance alone got some laughs. I like to think that the opening joke ("This place is filled with hot, young guys, and I'm stuck up here with a middle-aged, bald ventriloquist!") lets the audience know that I don't take myself seriously. From then on, they seemed to sit back, relax, and laugh.

Chris: I agree 100%! It was my first time doing this material in public, and it doesn't flow naturally yet. Also, I know I tend to be a little stiff, especially compared to the figures. If you would elaborate a little more about varying the pacing, I'd be most appreciative. Do you mean how fast we each talk, the length of the lines? I know sometimes there was too much time between our lines, especially if a line did not get the laugh I expected.

Ony: I am truly honored by your compliment. And you're right, she's a Selberg "Granny."

Because of this performance I've been invited to perform in "New Comedians Night" at Caroline's, the premier comedy club in NYC. That's the week after next. I'll let y'all know how it goes.

Thanks again, guys. It's great to be part of such a supportive community.

Right you are, Tom. I tape rehearsal sessions, too. Studying the Governor's tape I've noticed a bunch of things I want to improve.

True!!!

Before my very first Pro Gig, I practiced in front of a live audience via open mic and had the act recorded...I did two open mic gigs and taped both...those videos helped me a lot to review my materials and my manipulation. Smile

My confidence was really high during the actual paid gig Smile

I stopped recording myself for awhile but now I'm planning to start recording again Smile

I still record my adult shows now, at least using my digital voice recorder. I make sure I test new materials every show, and the best way to tell if they are "keepers" is via my audio recording--which I'd review after the show.

I also keep my recorder within my reach everytime because I use it whenever I think of something that can be worked on later in my script.

I agree. Great stuff. If that was your first time out with that material I can't wait to see what it will be like a few performances in.

You could actually see the performance getting more natural and flowing as it went along.

Thanks again, guys. Next stop is Caroline's in NYC. About half the act will be the same; the rest new. This time Democrat jokes! (Watch out, Hillary...)

Bob,
Be careful - NYC voted for her. When someone isn't popular, it is one thing - but when they have a favorable rating it can be another.

Hope things go well and we get to see more video!

Actually, I did too, both times she ran for the Senate. But during this primary season she's earned the right to be made fun of. Smile In any case, I hope the jokes get a few "boo's" because Lucille is ready for them!

Thanks for the good wishes, and I'll report back Wednesday.

Hey Bob,

Your comedy bar gig inspired me...so I'm video taping my gig this weekend in a comedy bar too Smile It will be in my native language but the laughter (if I get some) might be interesting Smile

Thanks Bob Smile
