I want someone like Kaufman to write me a book. I am not sure if I am lazy or just have too much on my plate to write a book. Any help? If some is interested in writing then PM me and I will give you some of my effects.

Are you aware that the author and publisher of a book (not the source of the material) are the ones who make the money from it? You could have it ghost written, of course, but a writer of any worth would probably expect more than is typically made from magic books. I wrote my own books, and have edited those of others, but would recommend neither unless you have an acknowledged talent for writing.

Hi Lee,
In my case, the reason I self published was a matter of control. When I decided to release my cold reading system it was because if I made it "public domain" then it would be known to be mine. I certainly would not want someone else to write up *my* effects. A tip for you if you do decide to write this project up yourself is to take the finished product and mail it to yourself recorded delivery. That way you have proof of ownership of the material on that date. Good luck! Bri |

This is one of those "urban legend" things; it in no way establishes "proof of ownership". If you feel the need to do so, simply register the copyright (which costs $30 in the U.S.).

Also, I think you misunderstood the idea of public domain. I don't know what you think you meant by it, but I'm fairly sure you didn't mean public domain.
That means that nobody holds the right to the work, nobody owns it, and anybody can use it as they wish. It has nothing to do with establishing it as yours, and is the exact opposite of maintaining control over your work.

Thanks for the heads up guy's.
I fully understand the points mentioned above, what I do admit is that I failed to get my point across. I was trying to say that it was public knowledge (among magicians) that the system was mine. |

That makes a lot more sense Public knowlege and public domain have nothing to do with each other, and what you wanted to accomplish could in fact be quite contradictory to something being public domain (although not necessarily).
