Hey Josh...I respect your opinion, but did you read Jamy Swiss article in the link above. I really don't have any Ellusionists product so I can't comment, but Jamy Swiss made it sound like Brad Christian is a bumbling idiot when it comes to magic, although a good business man. Any footage I've ever seen from Brad Christian at all seemed as though he was at least competent.
Can anyone comment on Brad Christian's ability, or has Jamy Swiss gone a little over the top as usual. I do however agree with a lot of that article. Rich B. |

I have to say Brad's classic pass is more invisible than Jamy's. However obviously Jamy is a great talent and a great theory man. I disagree with many of his opinions -- especially about David Blaine, but am proud to be in the same profession as he is.
I have not read his comments about Brad's skills, but if he says Brad is a bumbling idiot, he is incorrect. |

There are some valid points in the article, however it's hard to get past Jamy's obvious personal attacks on Brad Christian. In the article it's stated that it would be reasonable to see Brad perform for real people. Well he does on several Ellusionist DVDs. The Ambitious Card is the one that comes to mind immediately.
I'm over 40 and have been at this a while. I've never met Brad, but enjoy watching his DVDs. I find him a much more personable entertainer than Jamy Swiss. I saw him lecture about 20 years ago and left half-way through. |

Not all E products are over charged and over hyped. I bought the Street Magic video. It was the first magic video I bought (I am 44, and I bought it about 3 years ago). I was very disappointed with it. I asked for a refund and they gave me full credit. It was a download, so I deleted it from my computer and moved on. I read their forums and saw a recommendation for Crash Course 1. I bought it as a DVD. This DVD was perfect for a beginner wanting to get into card magic. Brad received criticism for not crediting properly, but other than that the DVD was a fantastic learning tool.
I have since learned about other sources, e.g. other magic sites, other magic producers, books, etc. I have grown up in magic, and E has grown down. They now focus their marketing on kids, and I am certainly not a kid. But that doesn't mean all of their stuff is bad. I now consider myself an educated consumer. Let the buyer beware.

I disagreed with Jamy's opinions as well, I was rather surprise my his limited look to a lot of things ( casual street performing can be done effectivly by the right approach to people, plus his views on custom decks is something I disagree with ), but when it comes to Brad's skill, I love Brad's performing style, I hate him for teaching a sleight he doesn't do properly, the pass. His riffle pass is really bad sir, other than that, Crash Courses 1 and 2 are the best card magic teaching videos I've seen ( in ACRs and beginners ). ~ Feras |

I've been to their website some time ago and yes it does feel like its been overrun by kids. as for their products nothing real great, they seem to be more concerned over their image and their marketing than the overall quality of their effects. I don't personally shop there, but if people do and they are happy good for them. but I still only go with guys I trust and they don't make that list.

I think Ellusionist has released some very good products like Kaos, Factory Sealed, and Indecent. evilshin, take a look at Apocalypse Vol. 9 No.1 Page 1161, 1986. In there the affect, See Through Prediction = Indecent.

Ellusionist got me back into magic after being away for 33 years. I have several of their DVDs and like them. I have 2 or 3 that I don't care for. I use to go to their forum on a regular basis but have seen it go down over the last year or so with ALOT of teen questions and comments (When is XYZ coming out. -Take a look at a card design I've come up with - etc.)
I respect Brad and what he is doing. It is not the ONLY place to buy magic but I think it serves a purpose and has some good products. |

Its pretty much just a personal preference thing. If you like them fine, if you don't that's fine to. I personally dislike them, but that's just me.

I don't remember exactly how I discovered the Ellusionist website a couple of years ago but I did and purchased their street magic dvd and crash course dvd's. They got me excited about magic. I loved the DVD training and I still think that Brad is a very good teacher. I bought a lot of their stuff but have since found better places to buy magic DVD's at better prices and with more material.
I really don't have any bad feelings towards Ellusionist. They are running a very successful business and in my opinion doing a very good job at it. I don't see anything wrong with their business practices and I believe that they try to be very honest in their business dealings. I've just moved on. I do however, re-visit their site on occasion to see if they have anything new that interests me. They release new stuff so sporadically that it's easy to grow away from them. Mike |

What do you find dishonest about what they do? Everything that I purchased from them arrived quickly and exactly as described. That's being honest.

In the Jamy Swiss article there was a comment from Denny Haney about the marketing, making a reference to graffiti walls, that the graffiti wall doesn't come with the effect. Many magicians tend to see things one way - this is from Ellusionist and I can't do it because I don't do street magic or whatever the excuse is. This isn't limited to Ellusionist. I've heard the same comments about Doc Eason's DVDs from L&L Publishing. I've read comments where people wouldn't consider the set because they don't do bar magic. |

The eye liner comment was made purely in jest! I don't wear tons of chains, wrist bands, shredded clothes or have a head of hair that makes me look like I went to bed with it wet either but I can do several tricks that might be considered "Street Magic". I just give em a wild eyed look and say "Wanna see something realllllllllyyyyy freaky" and then have smoke come out of my hands as I make a pass! LOL

He's owner and CEO of a huge magic company, Hes got a throng of kids that think hes the best thing since cards were invented, And buy whatever he says is worth buying (Mostly whatever hes selling), And lets not forget that he has to opportunity to work with some pretty good magicians. Of course don't forget the cash. Hes got a whole persona and background that the kids on HIS boards lament to each other (Which is probably 10% fact, 70% fiction, and 20% pure bull). Nope. Idiot he is not. Even when you factor in the freaking eyeshadow. (Why the hell someone told him to do that I'll never know). But I do like his pass and the fact that he really tries when he's teaching something. I think Jamy has a problem with him and was criticizing everything he could think of. Jamy was spot on with most of his article though. Tim

The effects on the DVD and lecture notes are far beyond your abilities. (They require mastery of the mechanic's grip.) It would only break your heart. Sincerely, Darwin Ortiz.......(This post has got to be in my top 5.) |
