I have noticed over the last few months, that I'll be out and about and someone runs up to me saying "hey...I know you...you're that Magic Guy that I saw perform at blah blah blah."
It seems to be happening more and more. It a pretty neat little occurance...I almost feel like Criss Angel...but with Talent! It's fun...but also very odd at the same time. I'm out with my wife today at a restaurant and these teenagers walk up to our table and say "arn't you Christopher Lyle." When I say yes...they were saying "dude..this guys the real deal...can you do a trick for us?" Since my wife and I were right in the middle of our meal, I declined, gave them each a biz card and told them where they could watch me perform in the evenings. It was a bit awkward and embarrassing...all the while, I felt like a celeb in a non celeb kinda way. Has anyone else had this happen to them?

It happens quite a bit around Buffalo, NY for me. I secretly enjoy it, and if I'm not busy I'll do something real quick. If I am busy, I'll politely decline and hand out my business card as you did. Small town celebrity is fun!

I spose it's not the same when you're approached by a boyfriend or husband and they're say'n something along the lines of "Hey, aren't you the son of a b**** that......."?
Fortunately I was quick in saying, "Nah, you've mistaken me for Christopher Lyle"! MickeyShameless |

Oh yea ...when you are a local entertainer, who performs for hundreds of folks per week...it can and does happen...and it is nice.A good reason to alway's have something quick and magical on you,to show your appreciation of their recognition of you.
However, occasionally{I have no idea why}I will be standing on line at a bank or a super market...and a 1.5 - 2 year old with their mom will look at me and say DA DA.Of course,as an entertainer,I play it to the hilt...for all onlooker's Rich |

Yeah...I've been doing this now for A LONG TIME!!! It's only begun to happen recently it seems. Dallas/Ft. Worth is BIG!!! What are the odds of it happening once...let alone several times. I know I perform a lot...but didn't think it was that much.

I used to have this when I was performing. Now I have a different situation.
I am a big hockey fan and keeping in the mode of wearing your favorite game jersey to sporting events, I wear a referee jersey (orange sleeve bands) with the name 'USUCK' on the back (I know most of the refs). Out in public people will yell "hey, usuck' - |

Yes. A few years ago when I was in South Korea, I was asked for my autograph more than a few times. It shocked me at first, but I wrote my name. Then it shocked the guy I wrote it for. he thought I was Max Maven.
Any way, I leaned to say a new phrase in Korean: Nanun Max Maven imnida. (I am/my name is Max Maven.) Tony |

I used to get recognized all the time, but then I cleared up that little matter with the FBI and they took down those pictures in the post office and it stopped.

Yes I do get recognized from time to time. From shows and parties as well as from some of my local TV appearances and infomercial work. But not enough to get worried about. lol.

I was at the airport just the other day and this loud voice boomed "Hey there's Derrick Rose the magician!" I was a little embarrassed I said it that loud but by then it was too late, everyone was looking at me.

I'd say maybe one or twice a month someone recognizes me. Just last week when I went to see Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay (funniest movie ever!), this older couple approached me while I was in line and asked if I was the magician at Red Robin. Well, that felt like a *** good moment. I was with a few of my friends, and it was some vindication for them always joking with me about being a magician lol!
Afterwards, most of them just shut up. |

It JUST HAPPENED AGAIN!!!! I'm at a Car Wash place and when the guy comes up to my wifes car (I was in the passanger seat), he takes her Car Wash order and says, "hey...arn't you that Magician fella over at Red Robin?"
This is becoming weird (in a cool way)!!!

If you are being recognized and approached by some there are others who recognize you but don’t approach you. Here is a friendly reminder, when a stressful situation arises in public i.e. the check out line, parking lot a crowded mall etc. and your patience is really being tested remember there might just be someone right there who recognizes you. Pass the test with flying colors and they will be even more impressed! Show them you’re cool on and off stage ;o) Just some thoughts from an old timer, Steven |

When I was working regularly, I got recognized a fair bit from the restaurant (once or twice a month). The most recognition I got though was when I was in a community theater production of the Mousetrap. It's weird to finish a show, then run to grab some food close to midnight and the person waiting on you recognizes you from the show.

Used to happen a bit back home. The only time it turned into a problem was when my ex-wife won an acting award at a Arts festival more than 700 miles (1000 kilometers) away from home and when we went out for dinner to celebrate people walked up to the table and said "hey, aren't you ____" She was not happy and we are no longer married so I don't care anymore.
Here in Taiwan I am just an amateur but now I get recognized as "Teacher!!" in the oddest places. |
