I'm still practicing getting a better classic palm. Been holding the coin the classic palm position for around 6 or 7 days. I'm seeing small improvements, but still not good yet. I'm going to continue to practice for awhile. I've made a few videos here, showing my progress. I'd appreciate all constructive feedback. I've talked to dan from coinvanish and a few people on the forum here and I they all said I have the technique right. I showed the position of the coin in one of the videos, it seems the the coin is held in the middle of the palm, by the side muscle, but up a little.
Due to exposure reasons, I wanted to read the rules before posting this. This is a quote from the exposure rules: "No exposure videos. (e.g, videos which show how Criss Angel or any other performer might accomplish their effects or how any marketed item functions). *However, we do not have a problem with users posting a video showing themselves performing a move or sleight in order to get feedback from other Café members.* " So hopefully this shouldn't be a problem. I'm determined to get a good CP. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMBbWHSWzYE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvbNz5uUftE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ea3VCAAWT-M |

I watched the video bout 5 times. You got the technique alright. The only problem I see from my observation is that your hand looks cramped....like most of us when we try to really palm the coin or should I say...when we try to palm it too much. The key phrase of course is "too much". In my humble opinion, too much of anything in magic is not good, as in life. Too much proving, too much this and too much that. The natural empty hand is rather loose as opposed to straight. If you relax the hand and just put conscious and independent muscle movement on just the pad of the thumb and a little bit from the opposite side, perhaps you might achieve the natural look. You might want to consider curling the left hand just a tad more just to balance things. Just like what the great Fred Kaps said..."I misdirect even when I do not have to"
I have been working on my classic palm since I was 7 years old. That would be 33 years ago. I was never good at it till sometime last year when I sat and examined my hand and its capabilities as well as its limitations. I found that if I work on it with a passion....using stacks, different sized coins etc...practicing the left and the right hand...I developed a muscle that allowed me to relax the unneeded muscles of my hand when I do the CP. The more I try to relax the more natural it looks. I use the stack as a medicine ball so to speak. Thanks to Mi Hermano, Mano... I started working on a glued stack. To make the hand more natural looking, gradually work on lifting the pinky while doing the CP. Observe great magicians with stong and natural CPs. Notice the pinky. These are just my opinion of course. Opinions based from my experience. Just give it a try and listen to the other guys here. You have the greatest ingredient in coin magic and it is very apparent. This ingredient is perseverance. Go for it buddy! Best from Manila! Rannie PS I humbly suggest you take the video down for exposure reasons. There might be a way so that only magicians can view it. I hope you don't mind me saying this. There is a "private video" option in youtube I think. Peace!

Certainly it will. Experimentation is really important . Although there are general guidelines which can be found in books, DVDs and even sites like Dan Watkins'.... we must remember that we all have different types of hands as well as sizes. OH did I mention muscle memory?

STFS - I'm no great shakes on this sort of stuff, but you do seem to be improving.
That said, could I please, with all respect, point you to rannie's 'PS' in his first post. Either take it off YT or find some way to make it only privately available. All the best, Dave

STFS = Strange Tasting Fish Sticks
When you upload a video, there's a Broadcast Option, just choose Private which means Viewable by you and up to 25 other people. This is what The Boss said in his first respond. |

I do want to take the video down but if I don't post it here other people on this forum can't help me. Unless I can think of another idea. Any suggestions? |

Almost all people here have youtube account. So yes. Take it down. Re-upload
When people want to see, give him/her the access. It's always been like that here. No other idea. Just make it private. And give the link to youtube as per usual, when they try to click, it will be notified that it's a private video and they will have to request access to see it. No big deal, those who are willing to help will surely ask permission to see the video from you. And that's how you really know they really do have a good intent Even the not so savvy older people here have youtube account for this purposes I believe. |

Hi,
Your hand is too contracted. The relax position will come with time. The best way to improve your skill is to palm a coin and handle everyday's objects as you would do if your and were empty. Don't try to break the world record of time spent with a coin palmed. If you keep it for too long time, it will only hurt your hand and won't improve quickly. Also keep in mind that during a trick you don't last forever with a coin classic palmed. The coin usely moves from one palm to another a lot of time. You don't need to have the fingers extended. The relaxed position for the hand is rather slightly finger bended. Last thing: in your video, your thumb is over extended. it has to be bent as well. Look at your hand when really empty. This akward position of your thumb is what really gives away what you're trying to hide. So keep up the good work and soon you won't have any question about palming coins or any objects anymore ! Bye, Alex. |

STFS - figpic has given just about the best advice you can get. Good luck in your endeavours, and would be interested to see a video in, say, a few weeks time.
Best wishes, Dave

One thing to try is something David Roth told me. Classic palm a coin in each and and go about your business for an hour. Or palm two coins typing on a keyboard. Really made a difference for me...

I second that Tom! I am reaping the benefits now.

It takes longer than that fish. Believe me it will come. It took me decades to get it to where I am quite happy. It too me another year to make my non dominant hand to even up. I am still working on it on a day to day basis. I enjoy the process to this day.
