Just off the top of my head, and I'm new to this, but they like things short and sweet.

keep it very visual
keep safety well in mind
audience participation is really a must, especially with kids

I recently did tricks for a couple of hours at my church for my daughter's bake sale she was having. I loved working with the kids-had about 7 or 8 of them entertained for quite a while. One thing to keep in mind is make sure you are always in control, but be gentle. I had one little one that knew "everything" but just tolerated her and kept her misdirected when she tried to ask difficult questions, etc. It was tons of fun! You'll love it if you like kids!

I'm guessing but kids don't like to be tricked? so your magic should "go wrong" to make them laugh?

Children are more observant than you might give them credit!

Well for starters...you are going to have to do something about your look! No offence but your avatar makes you look like a stoner. Is that the kind of image you want to portray around children? If you showed up looking like that to perform at my kids party, I would not let you in, sorry.

I wonder if you are trying to be joking about performing for kids?

I think the market you are looking to work in might be pubs, bars and back alleys at 2:30 AM.

Good luck -

Colorful, fun, and goofy magic works for me. I do the magician in trouble thing for children and they laugh and love it.

If you are looking to get into the children's magic try it out for a family member or friends kids. This is just to get your feet wet and to make sure this is what you want.

It takes someone that knows kid control, ready for anything, and lots and lots of patience. Being a goofy goober helps too.

First off, you have to like kids and be able to tolerate them, they think they know it all.
I would advise not doing any kind of levitation or floating effects, kids always think it’s a string doing the work and they say what they think! Ruining it for the rest of the children.

My top ten picks for kid magic are:
Professors Nightmare
Coloring Book
Slush Powder
Thumb Tip
Rocky the Raccoon
Flash Paper
Vanishing Coke Bottle
Mouth Coils
Break Apart Wand
Dove Pan (with candy)

Remember you have to hold there attention short and sweet be very visual.
I hope this helps in some way.

Cool. But, I didn't say I wouldn't let you into the house, I just wouldn't want you to entertain my kids. If I was having an Adult party, you'd be welcome...You look more like a Rock & roller than a magician. Are you sure you didn't mean to log onto a musicians chat site?

Just MHO, but I think you should ditch the magic wand idea then grab a guitar and head to band auditions...lol

Good luck -

Don't sweat it Owen, Your avatar is still better than that generic rabbit. People assume I am an old man with a cane because I have a halloween photo of me for my avatar. (Im only 32)

Hi Owen,

You might want to try reading 'Seriously Silly' by David Kaye a.k.a Silly Billy
It's a very good book on Kids Magic ! A must read !

After that you may consider if you want to go with the kids or not Smile
