A bunch of you have already alluded to this, but isn't the core of magic to entertain people? I hate to break it to you...but none of us are really magic! I find it fun to watch his show with non-magicians, because what I find offensively obvious is totally lost on most people. Does he cheat? Yeah. Is he the best? Probably not. But he's a great entertainer. He fools people - cameras, shills and all - people don't see it. Could you do better in his circumstances? The world may never know...

Does he ue stooges and **** off the magic community with his methods to get away with his illusions? YES, but we are not his intended audience. And for some reason hs highly rated show is loved by ppl all over the world. So I guess he does his job as a magician to create illusion, magic and mystery.
Does it bug me when Im doing walk around magic and ppl ask me to walk up a wall or loat fom building to building? meh not really. JUst crack a joke and do ur thing, they will forget all about him. But it is ammusing to watch him do things like coins across and macdonalds aces more poorly than my first yr in magic, when its time for his close up show his ratings go up, cuz I'm watchin, laughing and enjoying my self to the terrible slieghts, performed by what most lay, A&E watching ppl my consider the best magi in the world. IM not a fan but he is doing his thing and making is paper!!! |

The question is "Criss Angel, is he a poor Magician?"
My qualified answer is no. When I watch CA on TV, very seldom, observing the numerous times that he uses camera tricks or the effects use shills that outnumber the spectators so that the method is blocked or when the misdirection is accomplished by a break in the camera action or the effect looks like the advertisement for the latest magical effect being sold on the web, then the answer is he is no magician at all. When he is performing something that can be done in front of a live audience, even with the shills where the misdirection is real and the apprentice creates the illusion then the my opinion is no, he is not a poor magican. Heavy lifting being done by hidden apprentice or a single shill is part of the magical process. Camera tricks and a lack of a real audience, when it is stated that one exists, is not Magic at all unless you consider movie making one of the magical arts. |

I have personally concluded that Criss Angel is no different than many actor's who have played a magician on t.v. There is a big difference between playing a magician and actually being one. Do we say that the actor who played Harry Potter is a magician? No, because even though it was entertaining to watch, the magic was created in the editing and special effects department.
Do we say that Edward Norton is a magician because he played one in, "The Illusionist"? I think not, right? When someone has to resort to so much camera editing, stooges, special effects, and other people for creative idea's it exempts you from being nothing more than an actor playing a role of a magician. Did he entertain? Yes! Does he play a good magician? Yes, but not worthy of any awards. Does he perform great close-up magic? I heard he does perform close-up magic, but have never seen or heard from anyone who has actually seen him live. Does he give back to the magic community? He insults other magicians, he thinks he's better than everyone else, and blames all his misfortunes on everybody but himself. Does Criss Angel deserve respect from a community that he disrespects? I think not! |

"ateriffic?" Must be the new slang or something.(lol)
Let's not forget about "Bewitch". Elizabeth Montgomery was the first female magician to have her own show. |

Good luck to the likes of Blaine,Angel etc..they have made magic "cool" again...they have made themselves some money, fair play, but the fact remains however there are far better magicians in my magic club than these guys, they just havent had the breaks......lay people don't believe this when I tell em,but its true, they think the tv guys are the pinnacle of magic, and we know, that they are not!
Ive upped my standards.Now,up yours!

These guys made their own breaks and I think you do yourself a disservice and it sounds like petty jealously when you tell lay people there are better magicians in your magic club. Even if it is true.

He is not a magician, he is a very smart person with a very smart PR team.
His style is annoying, over-done, and very often what you see is mere fake. He set a trend of "street magic" together with others like David Blaine, Brad Christian etc. I consider the "street magician" group a rotten apple in magic, not refining their effect, and usually scamming other magicians with poor material and promising previews.

I lost any respect I had for Angel with his childish David Blaine mockery.

I'm not really a fan... David Blaine got me interested in magic when I was younger so I never really like Chris Angel. I doubt that he is a poor magician because I don't think he got where he is now by being a poor magician...

I personally think that he is a bit egocentric, but he has helped popularize the art of magic to the younger tv audiences, and in this case, his audience is not necessarily the people on the show he is performing for. Yes he does camera tricks, tell me what I don't know. Do stage magicians not use wires as well? And mirrors? Those are tools of the trade for the stage, so to some extent video editing is fair game for him.

Poor magician or not, the bottom line is the man has made some SERIOUS cash and is VERY famous. The man knows how to market himself, good comments, bad comments, your still talking about him....which is EXACTLY what he wants. End of story.

I just wish he would have had a bit more class re: the Blaine thing.

Not a particular fan of his show, but I've got to admire his determination and success. Also, it can't be easy to produce so many shows with such a lot of material week-in week-out ...
The thread in Grand Illusions on the YouTube Hitler/Criss Angel video was too funny for words, though ... |

I did hear that he has the WORST show in Vegas. It's like going to watch a train wreck, and a lot of magicians go just to see how bad his show really is.

Hmmmmmm...if it is true about paid actors being specs, then that will pretty much sum it up.
