One of those "does it really matter?" issues that bothers me:
Rather than create a post such as "Does anyone own Drawing Room Deceptions by Guy Hollingsworth (sp)?", why not just spend about twenty seconds and look up "Hollingworth"? With all the wonderful tools available on the web, there is no reason to misspell important words, unless you just don't have any idea how the word is spelled. Even in that case, typing your guess into Google will usually bring up a host of suggestions. If you are close enough to the spelling to realize you spelled it wrong, you should be able to spell it right... Grrrrr.....

Because people feel the need to pay lip service to the online grammar fascists, but are, in fact, too lazy to truly care!

That thought has crossed my mind, too.
Although, actually, I kind of like it. It's wearing your heart on your sleeve by announcing similtaneously(sp) you can't spell and you don't give a rat's gonad. I don't like spelling and grammar that are so bad you can't understand what the person is saying but I don't see why a reasonably literate person has to go running around and break their flow just for one word they're not sure of. If everyone can understand it anyhow what exactly bothers folks so much? George |

Till recently we did not have tabbed browsers to open another window and do the lookup via google or some other searchbar.

Bah. Perfect spelling and grammar is overrated. Frankly, I don't trust anybody who doesn't make a mistake at least sometime when they write -- from my standpoint, they are less writers than they are editors who don't know their place.
