Greetings all,

I am an older beginner just getting back in magic. I am currently stuck working on chapter of the Royal Road to Card Magic. My interest in magic started many years ago, and was quickly quashed. The book that I was trying to learn card tricks from started off with Lesson One:The Pass. It went on to say that after mastering this basic technique we can go on to learn some effects. Not only could I not master the pass, I couldn't even do one under any circumstances. After a week or so, I gave up. Now I'm back and happy to be here.

regards,
merk

Welcome to the Magic Café,

I had a similar problem with cards so got encouraged to learn some self-working tricks that I could perform to my friends whilst I was practising other moves.
Have wand will travel! Performing children's magic in the UK for Winter 2014 and Spring 2015.

Merk,

For beginning card magic, it's great to check out some of the stuff by Michael Ammar titled "Easy to Master Card Miracles" Stuff in there isn't too bad. I'd also invest in "Encyclopedia of Card Sleights" which will set you up with the basic moves for card magic.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your advice all. I should have added that I now have Card College and am starting to work through it.

Welcome back, Merk!

It's not always easy to stay motivated. You have a support group here who want to encourage magicians to make magic a greater hobby, form of entertainment and profession. Whatever your level, enjoy what you do. What other hobby leaves others saying, "How did he do that?" without going to college for 12 years?

Have a great holiday.
Here's hoping everything you do hits the BULLSEYE!
