While I'm sure the author is a ****, I do believe JTW's point is an important one.
So many of the very strong magic effects have no bad moves in them, from the audience's point of view. Sometimes it looks like there are no bad moves because you're doing an ultra-difficult move so skillfully nobody sees it, or things are so well-covered that there are no moves to see. Other times it's because it's one of those fluke self-working moveless wonders that relies on some discrepancy that escapes your perception. Some of those moveless wonders, I'm not ashamed to say, have fooled the bejeezus out of me. Take one of those foolers and slap a nice presentation on it, and frequently you've got a valuable trick. |

One of my favorite books is "Scarne On Card Tricks". And I've floored an audience many times with self-working or "one-move" effects. But not only was there a presentation involved, they were well constructed effects. With only one exception, every trick in this book has been done in schoolyards for almost 40 years. I know because I SAW them in schoolyards 40 years ago. I might also mention, that so far I think I'm the only one in the thread who's put up the 17 bucks. That means so far, I'm the only one qualified to offer an opinion. P.S. Don't waste the money-- being qualified to offer an opinion on this trash ain't worth 17 bucks. Steven Youell |

I think everyone who even considered buying this e-book should send Steven a buck via PayPal as a way of helping him recover the cash he spend on our behalf, and the hours of his life he wasted reading it...
Or at least buy something from him. You certainly won't regret that... |

Thanks for the heads-up Medifro. I'm happy to talk about this.
Wow. Guys...It's a card trick for beginners. It says so right on the site. I can't believe you're freaking out about this. If you want to know if something is right for you...shoot me an email. I'm an open book and will answer any questions that you have. The majority of the people reading this: DON'T BUY THE BOOK. You're probably not a raw beginner. I will say that some of the posts here misrepresent or mis-interpret what I say in the book...(and to be fair, some parts of some posts are dead-on.) First of all, I never say that "hard card tricks" are bad. Also, I never say that you don't need to practice. I still stand by what I actually DID say in the ebook and many of you are proving my point. I'm not calling anyone here a "Nerd" magician, and I'm sorry for those who identify themselves as such. Any questions about anything...I'm here to answer and to clarify. - Tim David P.S. Steven I got your email and sent you an email about a refund. (Steven, Card on Ceiling is not "heady" or "mentally challenging"...that text was taken from "ImPOCKETble".) |

Tim,
Your book is horrible and overpriced even for beginners. The language in the book and on the site is inappropriate, the effects in the book are horrible, the advice in the book is horrible and the instructions are horrible. Saying someting is for beginners does not give you the license to lie or give sub-standard teaching on sub-standard material. My review stands. I do not want a refund. Steven Youell |

It has come to my attention that Tim is no longer in bed with David Castle so I do stand corrected on my previous post!
As for the "Beginner" ..... With Books like Marks Wilson's Complete, Henry Hay's Amateur Magician and the Fulves self workers WHY would the beginner need anything else? There is already a huge pile of pure crap out there that is being produced by people that have yet to study any of the classics themselves! |

I haven't read the book, so I can't comment on the content.
However, judging by the sample I did read, I'd just like to say that I definitely don't appreciate the reputation that this book gives to magicians who do spend time practising. I also get the impression that this book fails to do what any beginners magic book should do: Develop the students respect, dedication, and love for the craft. Why a magician who appears to be quite dedicated would subject us and our craft to this type of mockery is beyond me. I understand what the intention was, and I have no problem with it, but I hate the way it was delivered. |

Why is it whenever an author gets called up on the carpet for releasing a crappy book, their first response is always either "you don't understand the material", or "it's not for you guys, it's for somebody else".
I think the credibility of guys like Steven Youell speaks volumes when they review a product or a book. In this case I have no reason whatsoever to doubt Steven's call on this book, and every reason to doubt the authors claim that "it's a good book, it's just not for you". Sometimes folks write books who just shouldn't be writing books......this would appear an example of one of those times. |

Let's do a comparison:
Tim David's Book: $17.00 Self-Working Card Tricks by Karl Fulves -- Under $10.00 More Self-Working Card Trics by Karl Fulves -- Under $10.00 The Royal Road To Card Magic -- Under $12.00 Encyclopedia of Card Tricks -- Under $12.00 Scarne On Card Tricks -- Under $12.00 Not to mention all the books by Bob Longe and others. Now SOMEONE tell me why Tim David is more qualified than those people (which he claims to be) and why his little booklet that has 10 tricks in it is worth almost twice as much as the other books I listed. Anyone want to try and take THAT one on? Tim? Steven Youell |
