My doves seem to lay eggs every other week of the month. For a long time I thought I had two females which would equal infertile eggs. But this one dove likes to sit on the egg. The bird when moved will walk right back to the egg and sit on it. She will even go as far at to roll the egg using her beak until it is under her.
Is this a sign of fertilized eggs? Wondering because I don't see why the doves would care to sit on an egg that isn't fertile.

Unfortunately doves sit on their eggs wheher they are fertilised or not.
Sorry but they are probably not fertilised. ~Ed |

Neither female nor male doves know if the eggs are fertilized or not. Of course each one wants to play it safe so they will not be sorry.

Doves will lay eggs over and over and the frequency you are talking about is normal during certain seasons. Doves lay eggs in pairs so my suggestion would be to leave the egg alone and see if you get another in a day or two. If you do, leave them alone and wait for about 21 to 22 days. If they are fertile, they will hatch about that time. If you find that you have 4 eggs in the nest, you have two females. Moving the bird will not stop the process. Removing the egg will prevent hatching.

If they lay two and you remove them, they could lay more the next week but again it will be two eggs. If they lay two, you leave them in the nest and next week they lay another, then you have two females.
An unmated female dove can lay just one egg
