I started when I was 12. It took me some time to get professional. But all my friends liked what I did. I do mostly kid shows because I am a kid's person.

There is not a right age for it.
Look it at it this way... If you are a kid, kids will like you because you are one of them. You might look like a brother or cousin. If you are around your 20s and 30s and even 40s,You will look like their father. If you are over 50 (no offence) you will look like a grandfather.Kids love granpas. Mago Mai

Age, in doing kids' shows, is irrelevant.
A lot of performers think that they should start out in kids' shows because it's an easy way to make a few bucks. Wrong! Doing kids' shows is going to be one of the hardest things you will ever do in magic. That's why there are so few really good kids' performers around (and so many bozos pulling doves out of their shoes!) So learn -- really learn -- how to do kids' shows; there are hundreds of good books out there on just that: by David Ginn, Tom Myers, Sammy Smith, and on and on. It's also where the real money is in magic. Sure, everyone wants to do restaurant work or corporate hospitality work. But restaurant work is relatively low-paying and hard to come by and corporte work is infrequent at best. A GOOD kids' magician will earn much more than 95 per cent of other types of magicians -- and have fun doing it! (But the emphasis is on the word "good"!) |
