I like this quite a bit. I think John did a great job and I don't know how he can afford to sell such a nice DVD at this price.
I do disagree with using any count but I felt the same way about Twisted Sisters. It is the mentalist in me. And his bonus effect, while more mental magic, strikes me as a great, almost impropmtu, effect to have in the arsenal. I laughed when I saw how easy it really is after trying it out. And it does have quite an impact. Good work, John! |

We all know how to force a card by equivoque; what I was saying is that those who own it seem to speak highly of it - if it's workable, practical, and now impromptu, it's a gem to me. There are so many routines that have come out that rely on a simple force - people don't complain when they buy those routines! Equivoque is a building block for magicians so whether you know it or not, the idea to use it with this routine I find pretty cool - and worth the price if I use it (and if it's anything like his other stuff, I know I will).

Only one of those decisions is based on Max's equivoque subtlety...the other TWO decisions are actually free choice. It is the way that John figured out how to combine these three that makes this effect so strong...the combination nullifies any suspicion of equivoque. But, don't let me talk you into it. Don't buy it. There will be too many purchasers anyway as soon as magic hobbyists start seeing it performed and seeing what a strong effect results from such a simple combination. It is so simple and effective, what more can you ask for? The dvd is very well made, and for the price, it cant be beat. I liked the bonus routine.

Thank you, Glenn.
BTW, Bannon might have made a comment that magicians will buy anything. However I do not believe that Bannon himself would knowingly release a sub-par product.

Possibly so.. but since the cards are easy to find I think this would have made a great magazine piece or better still an item in 'Cardzilla!

Simply put, this is a great purchase. You will not be dissapointed with the value or spectator's reactions. Another great feature with Duplicity is that when the cards eventually wear-out you can make another set of cards for pennies and therefore won't necessary have to re-purchase the effect.
I especially like that the cards can be immediately handed out for examination and it requires no difficult set-up. Duplicity can be performed in both strolling or table-hopping situations. Tip: when performing strolling, direct the spectator to 'clamp-down' on the cards with his thumb to prevent accidental exposure. Highly recommended! -Jared |

Does anyone posting here about how much they like this trick do "Twisted Sisters"? And like this one better?

I will be performing this a lot more than Twisted Sisters. Don't get me wrong, I love Twisted Sisters. But I like the freedom of this trick in terms of not having to be careful about the cards at the end of the effect. Great for close up. Although if I were performing it on stage (with jumbo cards), I would do Twisted Sisters. I believe Bannon discusses the pros and cons of both in the Duplicity ebook.

I just got the routine. I agree it is a great effect. The only thing I would add in the patter is to mention not only am I going to cause them to change places but will turn them over in the process.

I personally think it's more effective if you don't mention you are going to make them turn over. More surprising when they spread their packet.

I have been thinking about the moment when John tells the spectator that the cards will change places. It seems like sort of an odd moment to me. I have devised a way to present this to suit my performing style.
As I said in the beginning of his thread, I personally prefer Duplicity over Twisted Sisters for close-up and I have both. Best regards, Glenn Godsey |

Not true. First choice, completely free. Second choice, equivoque. Third choice, completely free.

Exactly. That's the magic. Four face down. You say you are going to make the selected cards switch places. Make your magical gesture... When they spread their packet, the card is face up. Magic!
It 's surprising and magical. Just because you don't say it doesn't mean it can't happen. I think over explaining the effect is not as interesting. I'd rather have that moment of surprise and then reveal that what I said was going to happen has happened.
