Hey people
I would highly recommend you check out this new DVD offering from Liam Montier and Big Blind Media http://www.bigblindmedia.com. Check out the trailer on their website. This is an entire DVD dedicated to magic with UV light. The effect are much better, and it is much cheaper than the crap Ellusionist put out a while back. There is a great selection of effects on here (11 in total) with the highlight being Invisible! A card is freely named then one is selected. The selected card is found to match the one in the card box that has been in full view from the beginning. But, for the finale the UV light is shined on the card to reveal the freely named card written!!! I have used this a few times now and it kills. Dated is a nice routine where the date of a borrowed coin appears on your hand. This is a nice simple effect and has a good presentation and has got some good reations as well. I won't go in to detail about the other stuff as these are the only effects I have performed so far but from what I have seen this is all good quality magic with good performance by Liam. I will try and review some of the other effects once I have done them. Also worth a mention is the production standards. This DVD definately has the sexiest cover I have seen for a magic DVD and the menus, lighting, cameras are all excellent as always with BBM releases. I really like the cool slanted look and the back ground lights. You also get a UV pen and light with the disc so their is no reason not to go out and buy it. Stop wasting your time on here and go NOW!!! |

There's a demo here: http://www.penguinmagic.com/specialorderproduct.php?ID=10445
INVISIBLE: I watched this and...thought I knew what was comming. The Magi takes out a predictioin card, whose face is a mystery and he places that into the card box ( with the light gizmo ). He gives the deck to the specator to shuffle, he takes the deck back and.... then has her "name" any card. It's a free choice. She names ANY card. Hmmm. He then has her pick a card. It's turned over and it doesn't match her thought of card. It gets shuffled in the pack and the card box is opened and the prediction card is taken out ( watch the demo as I won't describe how ) and is turned over and it matches the chosen card. I'm with it so far. But I'm thinking..why did he have her name a card also... He takes the UV light and shines it on the face of the prediction of the chosen card and written..is her freely named card. I had to watch this a few times before going to the explanation as I was thrown off by the spectator shuffling and naming any card. Everytime I thought I had it, it didn't work out. I had to watch the explanation. Bloody brilliant! Even when he tipped the method, my mind wouldn't accpet it because of her suffling the deck. The deck can be used for almost any routines before or after ( no card warp or torn and restored as you want to keep the 52 cards) This UV idea is clever, as it can be used for many other applications ( revelations on the arm etc. ) Liam Montier is quite the clever fellow!

I've made up the deck for INVISIBLE. I hope to perform it this weekend.
It's quite fiendish!!

Folks,
No messing - this is GREAT magic. Liam showed me a few of his ideas with the UV kit before the DVD came out and, as always he was right on the money with his thinking! I've said it before but Liam is one of my favourite creators (and just person in general) - if you don't get this DVD you're missing out!!! Plus, it's a BBM release! Of course, I've parted ways with BBM, but you can never argue with the production quality - judging from the trailer - it's top notch as always! So, what exactly are you waiting for? Get it now before I mess with your head with one of the tricks off it the next time you see me at a convention! Dave.

You just did!
Seriously, though, this is a very good dvd. Coming up with interesting revelations is no easy task but somehow Liam has discovered many amazing things to do with the UV light and pen. And they all feel FRESH. I really love the stuff on this dvd.

Invisible is a home run knocked completely out of the ball park!
Extremely powerful effect and could have been marketed on it's own and you would have gotten more than your money's worth. Liam put a lot of thought in this and it shows, as he takes it well beyond what you may think. It's nice to take a deck of cards and perform and at anytime be ready to do invisible , as it's always ready and is unique to this type of effect. After you ponder what may be possible with the UV , get this DVD to see what potential this really has. Fantastic! |

Very cool DVD and as has been stated, Invisible is worth the price alone. There are a few other effects I liked on the DVD and a few on the PDF I received as well. There is deffinitely a lot of potential for UV effects. Another great job from Liam!

I also like Liam's personality/performing style. Try not to smile and laugh when he gets "cheeky".
The fellow that sits in with him ( he is also on the Cameron Francis DVD's ). Who is he? He's very funny. Monty Pythonish in humor. I like him.

I've had my eye on this. Sorry if it sounds like a stupid question, but due to the nature of the UV light, do these effects have to be performed in environments with darker lighting? I don't perform in nightclubs and the like, mainly on stage and close-up so if this is the case then this DVD would be of no use to me.
I really like the sound of the effects, could someone clarify in what kind of location these kind of effects can be used? |

Hi Lord Freddie,
Luckily, the UV light is visible in 90% of conditions... only in EXTREME bright light it is harder to see (such as the studio lighting at the filming!) Hope that helps matey, and any more questions just drop me a line here or though the PM system. Rock on! Liam. |

Thanks Montz, you've answered my question perfectly. I was teetering on the brink of purchasing this and it sounds like something I could certainly use!
Cheers! |

Christopher, the guy who sits in during the explanations is Owen Packard, director/producer of the BBM dvds. And, yes, he very funny.

I recently purchased this DVD and it's very good indeed. Invisible is the best effect on the disc but the others on there give you plenty of ideas for other UV applications. Of course, the production values are up to the usual quality BBM standard and Liam comes across as a likeable chap.
The only downside is that the UV pen supplied is rather naff, for those of you in the UK, WH Smith sell a rather good 'security pen' for £1.49 which does the job superbly. |

Thanks dudes, glad this is going down well.
Remember that when you pick it up, you can also get a PDF of extra ideas direct from http://www.bigblindmedia.com or from myself here. The PDF has ideas from Alan Rorrison and Donny Orbit as well, and is an extra TEN stomping routines. Rock on! Liam. |

Thanks Chris for the review. I was on the fence about this but I've followed your reviews before and know that you don't give good reviews just because something is new or "cool" (which I thought this was).
I'll definitely pick this up now. |

Not only is it a great DVD (good effects, superb production values) it inspires you to come up with other uses for the UV light. I have come up with two routines of my own, which I'm pleased with as they are getting me great reactions.
