I sent one off Richard, thanks again. I dropped off a laptop to Greg and he has so so wifi (the hospital does not provide it so he is getting a signal from a pub that seems to work as long as the computers in the right spot).

The doctors told him a possible option may be for him to go home and wait for the transplant, but he would have to have an I.V. at his a house and a nurse checking up on him, and his classification would drop to B which means people could jump ahead of him. If he stays in the hospital he is at the top of the list (A) and would be first in line if a heart becomes available. Difficult choices for sure.

Again he wished me to convey his thanks for all the support from this board.

Greg, Keep on the A list. I promise we won't sink the ship while you are away.

Signal from a Pub right. Now we know where you have the hospitalization at.

Greg should be home Monday, Doc said that it takes them 6 hours to prep a heart and he can be in Chicago from Colon in three. He will have to stay on the I.V. and have a nurse check him periodically but at least they deemed him well enough to wait at home.

Greg, should I bring Pepperoni or Sausage pizza over on Tuesday night? Maybe we can feed it through the IV.

Get well soon.

Was watching the shop this morning when Greg stopped in. He has a machine pumping drugs into his arm and it has him getting around pretty well considering. He is still waiting to perform the hippity hop hearts, but very happy to be home.

Glad he is doing as well as can be expected.

I knew you could not keep him out the shop. Poor Debbie, Greg must be a lousy patient!

Maybe he was just out to Five Star to get a pizza?

I don't have direct information but I just heard that Greg is back in the hospital and the surgery has not gone well. Your prayers now are really needed.

Guys, I got this email this morning. Prayers are definitely in order.

Hi Everyone,

I talked to Martin Bordner, Greg's brother today. I had heard a variety of
things about Greg's condition while in Louisville last week and at the Ring
211 meeting last night. You may already know what follows, but since some
things I have heard recently are just plain wrong, I thought it would be
helpful to know that I had heard this from a family member.

Greg is in Chicago and has had a ventricular pump surgically implanted. From
the American Heart Association's web site, I learned this: "A left
ventricular assist device (LVAD) is a battery-operated, mechanical pump-type
device that's surgically implanted. It helps maintain the pumping ability of
a heart that can't effectively work on its own. This device is sometimes
called a "bridge to transplant." People awaiting a heart transplant often
must wait a long time before a suitable heart becomes available. During this
wait, the patient's already-weakened heart may deteriorate and become unable
to pump enough blood to sustain life. An LVAD can help a weak heart and "buy
time" for the patient."

http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=4599

Greg is still waiting for a heart transplant. The statement that he is "off
the list" is not correct.

I look forward to seeing many of you next week at the Get Together.

Howdy,
I had the pleasure to visit with Greg at Rush on Saturday night. His brother in law was there.
Condition: He was sitting up in a chair, no extra oxygen. He was connected to 2 assist pump devices with tubes coming out of his chest then to the pump , then back in. His vital signs looked pretty good to me ( that's what I do). He has been up to the BR and is exercising with a floor mounted pedal system. He said he is back on 1A for the transplant list
How did he look: I think he looked great given his condition. He has been there in ICU over a month, and I was pleased how well he looked. He has lost some weight but otherwise he looks good
Spirits: He seemed up. He really appreciated the card from the Get-Together. Len Radde delivered it. He said a few others had stopped by. He does have access to a laptop and the net.
Highlight: I got to watch him eat his technicolor hospital dinner, Orange squash, multi color veggies, beige turkey, white bread, and blue berries. He said he is sick of turkey and fish.
Say a prayer for him, I think things are looking up

I got word last night that Greg was being prepped for his new heart. It should have been in place about midnight last night. I haven't heard much else since then.

I did talk with Gordon Miller and he said Greg was in very good spirt. He has been scheduled for a prior transplant but the donor heart did not meet the approval of the doctors.

Heavy duty prayers are in order.

Just spoke with Greg. He says he is doing fine. Hasn't been a week yet, he said he is pretty worn out , but that is to be expected. Med wise he is on lots of anti-rejection stuff and some heart meds. He said the docs told him "no infection, no rejection, near perfection". He has had family visitors. He was able to keep up a steady conversation, voice a little weak but didn't seem short of breath, that is good. He says he has been up in a chair without a problem and they were talking about walking him soon. Keep up the prayers and say one for the family who had to make the difficult and courageous choice to allow a loved one of theirs to be a donor, their gift made this all possible.

More good news, Greg said he will be home in a week, no more than 2. He thanks all the well wishers for the kind thoughts and prayers. The heart he received is from an 18 year old so many prayers and thanks to the donors family.

I am sure Debbie is glad. At least, this way he will be home in time to shovel the drive when the snow comes.

Glad things are going well.
