Emotional Intelligence Review
I did not opt for the DVD, instead I downloaded the product from Penguin. It is a rather huge file to download, but I did get it to work on my computer. OK now for the review. Phase 1 Practically nothing new here, but I do like the different methods Luke discusses regarding the emotion selected. Phase 2 A nice way to get an audience member involved in the process. Nice work! Phase 3 Another great way using old principles which is sure to hit. Performances were good, especially the one in the Psychic Shop. All in all, I think this is a good investment if you are into Mentalism. I think pricewise its fair, but could have been $20 instead of $24.95. Thanks Alex

Garrette,
what a wonderful review I ´couldn´t explain it better. For me, not just his performance is sloppy, the whole concept seems sloppy to me. He told the audience that psychics works with techniques he is also able to do, but better and shows the audience a card trick with 7 cards where he knows which card was chosen. Ok, very well performed it can be a strong effect, but with such an introduction, I expect more than something with 7 cards. The second phase with the spectator as mindreader (or "word guesser") is obviously not very save, because even in 2 of his presentation examples he failled in the first and second run and his outs didn´t seem very motivated to me, it was just another try or an emergency out. The third phase: very old, but Luke remind me to some old friends in mentalism, written down in some good old books, ready to read waiting for me in my bookshell - thanks for that. Some of his tips and hints are also nice. So, the basic idea to recombine different old effects to something new is good, but the result wasn´t what I expected. The obvious reset of the cards between the phases alone is reason for a sacking for me and not a reason to use this effect for the basic method. For the rest, I want to accompany Garrettes Review p.s the shots itself and the quality of the video are technically very good.

I enjoyed this DVD. Well shot, reasonably priced, lots of good points.
However, I did find Luke's abundance of tattoos a tad distracting. He may soon run out of body space to decorate. GH

With a book that insults CR classics from Webster to Larson to Nelson to Riggs? With him also possibly insulting "psychics?" I am hoping his next book will be "How to influenc people and make friends the LJ style!" Not even a lollipop? As already written; the methods here are not new; but LJ has put them together in a new way.
The DVD spends a lot of time going into the detail on the old methods. For me, that detail was wasted time, because I knew the methods. So - for me, the benefit would have to be from the overall effect. Was the overall effect strong? I didn't think so. So is it worth buying if you are a newby looking for descriptions of the basic methods? I don't think so - considering that for the same money you can buy an Osterlind DVD or 13 steps AND Annemann. If you are looking to touch their emotions - look for Bill Cushman's ebook. |

I too pre ordered this dvd. I had to contact penguin magic a number off times to get them to ship the dvd to me. Apart from this I have no problem with them.
As for the dvd I like it very much and found it very usefull. I don't know that much about Luke Jermay but reading the above posts I get the feeling he is not liked. What did he do in the past that is mentioned above? cheers jay |

You only have 2 posts, so your opinions aren't going to be highly valued here, FYI.
You had to contact Penguin repeatedly to get your DVD? I've never had that experience. It's always been pretty easy to get any issues straightened out for me.

Was there ever a time when you had 2 posts Jeff ?
I ordered the DVD about 2 weeks before it came out and I only got it on the 26 July. I contacted them several times to see where it was and they sent a reply saying it had been sent on the 20 July. Nearly a month after the release date. I am still waiting for a bonus DVD I am meant to get for ordering over 50dollars or something. sorry if my opinion is not highly valued maybe in 800 or so posts you someone might take notice. jay |

You took that all wrong. I don't care how many posts someone has for their post to be valid. I was just warning you that praising or criticizing anyone's effect as your first post is generally ridiculed here. It's not always a very supportive bunch if you're not asking for help on a double lift when you first post here.
I don't know much about the Luke situation either, only that a couple of guys didn't receive something from him and about 30 others started bashing him because of a second hand account and one side of the story.

I'm not a psychic. I do however have what one might call friends who are psychic. I've known them for years. They do stuff. I know they're not conmen. They don't charge for what they do (actually a couple do, sorry). They don't get it right all the time but there have been instances where they've totally fried me. Now they're either deceiving themselves or they're not. Or they're either lying or they're not. But I can tell you a little of what they ARE and what they're NOT.
Firstly they ARE good people, and secondly they are NOT scumbags. I think it's scary when some kid hears an older more experienced person who is a bit of a name (It could be Derren Brown who knows) say something about a certain type of people and without knowing too much the kid jumps on the same bandwagon painting all and sundry with the same brush. And even (read Tony's post) rehearses the use of the inflammatory remarks into a professional presentation!!! You know what? What with his treatment of people who support his work and the name calling of people he doesn't even know, Luke needs to be very careful that he's not looked upon by some as some kind of... scumbag? bobser ps: I lied about me not being psychic by the way. I have strong suspicions about 'magicpimp'!

When Luke's on stage, it's his show. He can say whatever he wants as part of his presentation, because that's his opinion. There's an entire section of Maximum Entertainment devoted to that. In Luke's opinion, and many others, the people that use these skills to take money from people are scumbags. If your friends aren't charging, they don't apply. If they are taking money from people in emotionally charged situations, they do qualify.

That's an interesting opinion you've got yourself there. Lacking in social skills certainly, but interesting nonetheless. For what it's worth I don't know you but if Luke Jermay called you a scumbag in a live show I tell you honestly I'd stand up and say something. Things like this start off as a whisper and end up with people being roasted on a spit. Nothing in this world travels faster than a cheap uninformed lie. People talk and by their fruits shall ye know them. Someone saying such a thing tells us more about themselves than the people they accuse.
