I searched the forums and did not see anything, years ago I saw a magi perform for Johnny Carson and the performer had a deck of cards with the words "the tonight show" written on the side, 4x
He shuffled - then it was written 2x He shuffled - then it was written 1x Does anyone know WHO that was, or what effect he was doing? Thanks, |

That's a version of paul gertners "unshuffled". The trick requires you to be able to faro shuffle. You can go to paul gertners site and find more info on it. I'm sure youtube is flooded with versions of this trick. Her's a few with minimal search effort.

Unshuffled first appeared my book, BEST OF FRIENDS (Volume 1 - 1982). Look it up, it's among about 130 other great pieces of magic. HARRY LORAYNE.

David, you may have forgotten the best part of that trick. After all those "shuffles" the deck is back in brand new order! Then the writing changes to the name of a selected card. I can't remember if that's how Paul handled it on the show due to time constraints, but that's how it is in Harry's book, and in Paul's book Steel and Silver. This is a marvelous trick which I've been using for years. I often write the name of the restaurant or company I am peroforming for and save it for VIPs in attendance. Also of not is Doc Dixon's handling in his book Everything is Funnier With Monkeys. This version, practically resets itself, as opposed to the original which needs 5 faros.

For this effect do you need to do a perfect faro every time? I do the faro very well, but it isn't perfect. Is there a technique for a perfect shuffle or just experience?

Jerry: That would be just about impossible because different effects, different people, different types of performances, and so forth. So, that has to be left to the individual. The closest I've come to that is to re-write and update my earlier books (from the 60s and 70s) into the large volume CLASSIC COLLECTION tomes. (I really hate to mention this, 'cause you know there'll be a couple of nerds screaming that I keep plugging my books.) Best - HARRY LORAYNE.
