I'm not sure exactly what these cups are - they look to be either RNT II PF copper cups or even possibly original Paul Fox/Danny Dew cups - but in any event they sold on Ebay last night for the less than princely sum of US111! And that's after 18 bids and a 7 day listing (see Ebay item #300230660277).
What's with that? A radical market adjustment amidst growing recession perhaps?.........or just one of those things. Whatever it is, unless I'm dead wrong about the identity of these cups, this looks to be the steal of the year so far. Fortasse |

Do you have a link? It could very well be magic maker knock-offs... they sell for around 80-90 usd.

Well, knowing who bought them, I'd say they're probably not MM!

Based on the sellers description of the cups, and the fact that all their other items seem to be zip-up track jackets, I'd guess they didn't have a clue what they had in their possession.
I believe the MM "Paul Faux" cups are brass, not copper? |

No they are copper or brass... I couldn't find the listing so I am of no help.
Ok, I found it, and it's hard to tell. He does have other magic stuff for sale... all of which are cups and balls. Who knows. -DJ |

Terry has it exactly right. Considering who the buyer was, not very likely these were MM cups.

He also has costumes, etc.
I took a chance on these cups. I don't think they are MM cups. May be JES cups. The guy really doesn't know beans about this stuff. I asked him how old they were. He said "They are vintage." So I told him that "vintage" was a meaningless word in this case. He says he's had them for 20 years. If they turn out to be MM cups, I'll call him a liar and return them.

That can also be a meaningless term. He didn't know who "custom made" them.

Bill :
Why do you think they sold for so little...........uncertainty as to what they really were?.........or Recession Hits C&B Market as Cup Prices in Freefall (not a very likely headline, is it?.........at least not yet) Fortasse |

I would also have bid for them, but the seller wasn't willing to ship outside the USA. Who knows, he may have got a higher sale price - but Bill would probably still have outbid me

I looked at the photo and I do have a set just like it. Mine were JES cups.

I will let everyone know.
Posted: Jun 20, 2008 5:16pm ------------------------------ Okay. Here's the deal. They are probably not Paul Fox cups. They are definitely not Magic Makers cups. They most closely resemble the original JES Squatty Cups. These may have been a prototype of the JES cups. If Dr. Schweid can contact me off-list, I'll tell him the details of what I see on these cups, and he can let me know. They just might be a set of Paul Fox cups that were made from short cups. They look sort of like the ones Jake makes, but there are a couple of noticeable differences.

Do they stack with other JES cups you have?

Yes. They also stack with the Paul Fox cups. Remember, the JES cups were modeled after a short Paul Fox cup that came in a mismatched set that Dr. Schweid had.
If this was the prototype set, then they were custom made for Dr. Schweid. I found a couple of identifying marks on them that I haven't seen on any other sets of this general type of cup.
