Did you check out the thread on the Sound Commander?
That is what it does and it does it well.

Kevin,
You can check out the remote I recommend on my website: http://members.tripod.com/remotelaptop/index.html Direct link to the company that makes the remote: http://www.l3sys.com/ Look at the KeyRF. Jeff |

I've been using a powerpoint remote with my laptop for the last year and it works great. I insert my music right into the powerpoint presentation. The slides on the presentation show what song is playing and what is coming next. The slides are large enough for me to see them easily at a glance from a distance of 5 or 6 feet. You can control the presentation up to 20 feet away without any difficulties and, it will even work while hidden inside the arm of a straight jacket.

The key rf looks a little pricey...
For my Sound Commander, I have been using the PPZoom... which unfortunately, is biggish... However... I have just ordered the Airclick (paid 20 bucks for it). It's RF... small... and I think I'll be able to hack it with the SC. even if you don't go with this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fnTtzlRndYM consider going the computer route!!

I agree that the KeyRF is expensive, but it's very sturdy and it's programmable and has been 100% reliable. The Airclick is cheap and when I experimented with it, I found that it didn't register the clicks every time, even if I was only a few steps away from the receiver. The buttons are not switches but are those rubber nubs that make contact directly with the printed circuit board. Not a problem if you're just listening to music, but a big deal in your show!
I originally went with the KeyRF because at the time, there weren't all these Powerpoint remotes available. If you can get one that's sturdy and reliable, go for it. |

In my search for a good sound system a couple years ago, a guy from Nashville sent me a Mac with his proprietary music management program installed to "test drive" for a while. The system was called "The Performer", his name was Jason Litchford. Great guy, too! Liked it, and liked the fact you had the track name (and if you wanted, a pic of whatever the effect was that went with it) displayed on the screen. Remote system was simple (it was the Airclick) and it worked well, but my problem was finding a place to put a laptop during most smaller shows. I'd NEVER set a computer out during a living room/carport/garage birthday party. Sounds similar to what's being discussed here. Price was good, too.
Ended up buying an iCue2 from (the now bankrupt) VSM, and later, one of the TWO VSM iCue2 SoundBox PA systems that were ever built/sold. I'm glad to have gotten one (along with the iPrompter scrolling display, large LED numeric track display), but wish others had been able to have their transactions completed with the company and gotten to enjoy the quality of the products. Seriously happy that others have come up with other viable alternatives for performers and Café members to use. Steve |

I got the griffen Airclick today...
Jeff, I think that I may be experiencing the same things that you are talking about. Alas... still looking for a good, cheap remote!

I don't know if "good" and "cheap" can be found on something like this. I would be interested if you find it.
One thing I forgot to mention about the KeyRF - the receiver has an antenna that you can extend up, so it catches the signals from the transmitter. Seems to be a big help. |

Scody,
The version on the Griffin installation CD might be for the older version of the Airclick software. Go to Griffins website to download the current version. That might help. G0THIKE |

Thanks g0.
The one that I currently use is flawless... it's the PPZoom... works fast and always. The problem is that it's bigger, and has a couple of features (like a mouse ball, and a few other buttons) that are not hackable.

Scody,
You might want to try Linx system keyfobs. http://www.linxtechnologies.com/Products......nsmitter They sell a USB receiver evaluation kit. Call them up. They are the company that VirtualSoundman bought parts from. Or do a Google Search for X10 keyfobs G0THIKE |

I'd be interested in finding one, too. It's about the only accessory I never bought from them.

Media Star is at http://www.theCESwebsite.com
For some reason Kerry Pollock has formed a new corporation titled Creative Entertainment Solutions Inc. It fits more along the lines of what he does totally, so he has the above NEW website, that displays all his products & services, plus the old ones. so to see the Media Star, hit the "sound" button on the website, and it will jump to Media Star, and on that page, you can click the different buttons on the remote to see different features. |
