Hi guys,
I'm looking for some small spring hinges. I thought they would be pretty available, but all I am finding are screen door hinges that are way too big. I need them to close a 15" x 37" trap door in a prop I am building. Any idea where I can get some? Thanks, Richard |

Michael, that is excellent! Ther is a little bit about this in one of the Osbourne books, but your site answers all the questions I had.
Thanks! Richard |

~Michael,
You the man, and a great one at that! Tom

Hmmm...couldn't help but think here....I am a high school band director by trade (when not doing magic), and the springs are very similar to ones that are used on brass instruments for opening & closing the water keys. In fact, I have used them to replace some springs on a card star. The water key springs are used to keep the key closed, but by bending them just a little, they are easily used for anything you want to use them for. I also recommend the spring tool, which makes working with them much easier. You could use the spring & Michael's info, and have all the spring hinges you need in nothing flat. Here's a link to some water key springs (or just google "water key springs"): http://www.thebandroom.biz/01_item_actio......p?id=824
Hope this helps! David |

Also, for most magic applications, you would need to use the smaller water key springs, such as are used on a trumpet. The larger springs are not as practical for most magic applications. Don't let the size fool you; these springs are very strong and will last for awhile. If you don't want to send off for some, check to see if you have a local music store that services band instruments.....they should have a supply of springs available. Check to see what sizes they have & if it will meet your needs. They will be happy to sell you some.

Guys,
I too have had questions about springs for some time. Thanks for the resources. (I love this place!) 'unc
You can fool some of the people all of the time, and that's usually good enough to make a decent living.
