Scott was the only one who mentioned in passing Sympathetic Silks. It is visual and the audience can follow what is going on. Not much chance for confusion here.

There's a lot of good silk magic. Some of my favorites are:
Sympathetic Silks, the way that Dick Stoner presents it. Half-Dyed Hank -- I use a Palmo ball to eliminate the switching of the tubes. 20th Century Silks -- I use a handling that only requires one gimmick, a hank ball. The handling is so free and the gimmick is first used to get the duplicate silk where it has to be and then it is used to vanish the other silk. |

My favorites:
1) Thumb tip vanish - still slays laypersons. 2) 20th Century Silks - an old favorite
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

Ive got a question for you silk guru's...
I have about 5 12" silks of different colors that I use for my animal production. What Silk effects are there, if any, that use only ordinary silks.. large 24" x 24" silks.. I would love to be able to put these to use in other ways, Thanks Tom

You have to download the reader software.. it is available for free on that site, if I am not mistaken... I have the same problem but worse... I am at work and I can't load any kind of software on my computer unless I have an administrator do it for me.. and she is tight with the boss... It probably wouldn't be a good idea to give the boss tips that I am reading books on the web while he is paying me... *L* He might soon find out that I spend half of the day here on the Café *L*

You mentioned Dick Stoner. Is this the same Dick Stoner from Ft. Wayne, IN? There's a name from the past! I bought my first magic at his shop 30 years ago... |

Duane Laflin markets a very nice Top Hat silk and TT Bunny silk for a "bunny from the hat" routine. This was inspired by an idea from Karrell Fox. I have written a routine for it which Duane published, and includes a story, and a transformation, where the bunny vanishes, and all that's left is his "tail" (cotton ball). I use this routine all the time in library shows, or in walk around when children are at the table, letting them pull out the rabbit. If you would like to have the routine, I can email it to you at no charge. I use Word format. Best regards, Christopher

I've been practicing the following routine with fairly large-sized silks (17"):
production and a few knot productions, color-change in fist and finally a vanish. I'd like to do a lot more with them, but I find the big silks (which are good for flourishes and knots) aren't so readily manipulated close-up, and the smaller ones (which are easy to handle) aren't so good for knots. |

I found a small pamphlet awhile back, it was a routine by (can't remember) but it was called Eclipse - a multiple reproduction,
vanish and change. It's a very versatile gimmick. I use Eclipse, fountain of silks, sympathetic silks, continuous coin from silk, ball and silk flourish, as well as a lot of my own routines. Michael MacDonald |

Well, talking about silks, I like the Diminishing silks production, The fountain of silks and one I can't remember the name, but you put three different silks in a transparent plastic tube, then you blow in the tube and the three silks are shot and they are tied together.

I've been doing 20th Century Silks in my kid's show for 15 years. I've also recently discovered that the Crystal Tube illusion (the one mago68 is talking about) gets a huge reaction from the audience. It's very simple yet highly visual and beautiful.
