Hello out there.
Finally, after many years of being interested in magic and reading about it, I'm going to start learning to do actual tricks! I've always loved magic since as a child my beloved uncle, Elvin Bernius of New Orleans, performed so many wonderful closeup routines to delight me, my sisters, and the rest of our family. Obtaining a copy of "Greater Magic" from a local library (and not returning it -- the first and last time I did that!) kept me interested years later. What I find most fascinating about magic are two things: the first is the wonder at the ingenuity of the magic fraternity, the other the honesty and decency of its members. Strange, that an art devoted to deception would be practiced by such decent and honest people! The aspect of ingenuity I just mentioned is well described in Paul Curry's book "Magician's Magic" -- "Note the ingenious thinking that makes them [magic tricks] possible, the manner in which the magician presents them, the remarkably simple points on which deceptions hinges." (p 76) I just love to zero in on a simple act of misdirection in a trick that makes it all possible, and I am always amazed at the genius of the men who create such moves. I guess Dai Vernon is the quintessential example of such genius, but all of you who create these minor miracles have it in you. Thanks for letting me in on some of your secrets! |

Welcome the the Café...enjoy the site...lots to learn here from many, many experienced magicians. Rachel.
I'd much rather regret something I've done than something I was too afraid to do. Have a great day. Rachel.

Hello! Welcome to the forums.
It is good to see another new person joining the magic community. Steve Brooks has a great site here and the community is very helpful. There is a lot of knowledge and skill within these pages. Magic has been such an important part of my own personal life - from when I started performing and into when I decided to launch my own online magic store (www.magicvault.net). With so many things in life to push magic into the background (tv, work, sports, ect..) it is good to see more and more people discovering this "art". Again, welcome... feel free to drop me a private message just to chat - I love building my network of magic contacts!
