I have been through the same thing, and I know exactly how you feel. The main thing right now is to "harden" your home. Replace the locks with pick-proof/bump-proof locks. Install an alarm system. If you own your own home, put up high impact storm windows.

We live in a neighborhood that is surrounded by apartment units. Many of the residents of these units are people of limited trustworthiness. It's to the point that several of our neighbors have been burglarized and/or held up at gunpoint.

We put 160 MPH rated hurricane glass storm windows on all our first floor windows, as well as the leaded glass panel in our front door. We replaced all of our wood with Hardi-plank. We installed Multi-Locks. And we have a monitored alarm system. We feel a lot better now.
