Eight days untill the prices go up! Get yuor registrations. The McBride "seceret session" is also filling fast. If you cannot make the convention at least try to make the Gala show.

Ok, I finally got my room reservation made for the convention. Now I just need to get stuff made for it.
If there is anything anyone needs special, I will try to get it done. Richard

IBM Ring 50 members, come to the Whirl, but also come see me at the auction this Wed. My wife wants a lot of stuff out, and I am going to have some great deals on items I must get rid of (most new . . .).

I'm hearing reports from potential clients that it's hard to find a magician available to perform in the Washington area on April 18 -- I can only surmise it's because they'll all be at Magi-Whirl.
Many magicians whom I know consider the day spent at Magi-Whirl not only a fun day but a real investment in their magical development. It's an opportunity to learn from some of the best in the business and see what's hot from some great dealers. It's a day and an evening of great magic and learning, and if you attend the McBride workshop on Sunday it's even more valuable. Anyone on the Café who comes to Magi-Whirl, look for me and say hello. I'll be one of the strolling magicians performing before the gala show Saturday night. |

Hotel space is getting slim. Today I confirmed mine.
Mike, They don't allow horses! I'll have to come early enough to leave mine at your house. For Christmas, Lucy got a sweat shirt that says, "I don't need another horse. I don't need another horse. I don't need another horse." But I'm not sure it is working. Suggestions? (And now we have plenty of green grass!) Perhaps the government will have "Spread the Manure" program to go with the economic recovery? (Not everything comes straight from the horses' mouth.) I'm looking forward to having fun at Magi-Whirl 2009. See you there. Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |

I ordered my tickets on the last day of the lower price! I'm a college student who doesn't have much money, but I think that the talent at this event (if not just the mingling with better magi than me) is well worth the price. Also, depending on where grad school or a job take me, Ring 50 might be my home in the IBM (planning on joining when I get a bit more stable). From what I've seen, a great bunch of very dedicated magicians in this Ring.
Oh and I'm very excited to see somebody as famous as Jeff McBride (and Mr. Green as I mostly do close-up). Does anybody know what McBride will be focusing on in his lecture? I'm familiar with his performances but maybe not his work that magicians use...

This will be my first Magi-Whirl since the 70's. I am excited!

Hey folks if any one coming from the Café has Magic Café stickers we'd appreciate them that way we can put a name to the handle.
Mike, Jeff will be lecturing on Saturday This will be his current material lecture. His session on Sunday will be focused on your performance and Jeff will help you improve. Bring a pen and pencil for this one and bring a routine that you are working on or need help with. Be prepared to perform it the secret session. Mike |

Café Members,
I will try to have Magic Café stickers at the DoveLite Booth in the Dealer Room. We like to meet and know the members there. This is a great convention. Ring 50 does a great job. Bob Sanders Magc By Sander |

First day was great. I got a lot out of Mr. Green's lecture. The magic he did was good but everything else he said was gold.

Wish I could have made it but it took me until 8;#0 setting up the dealer booth.
What little I talked with Mr. Green prior to the convention, he definitely is with it. I know he appreciates it when others get it also. Richard

Sly, I wish I had had some time to say hi. Glad you had a great time everybody. Looking for a new restaurant. Special Thanks go out to the dealers who support us each year. Richard didn't get as lost as I did when I drove past the school, Twice on the same trip.

Being a local Alexandrian, I have never missed the Gala show since I first heard about it 4 years ago...
I haven't been to the lecture portions of the event yet, but plan to in the future... I always bring my son (9 years old) to the Sat. night Gala and let me tell you, this year he almost turned inside-out at the chance to get his picture taken with Jeff McBride and tell him how much he liked his water bowl routine... he was so excited about it that he practically did cartwheels all the way out to the parking lot! In the years that I have been there, the Saturday night show has been a wonderful event. I always try and bring a "muggle" friend or two who still talk about the shows with enthusiasm. THAT, to me, is the judge of a great show - when 'real' people are entertained by the event as much or more than the magicians in the audience, you know you've got the real deal going on. And, you can't beat the price for this top notch show - the entertainment is fantastic. The theater itself is a very nice auditorium in a private high school and the kids do a great job with the production aspects of the program. My only complaint is the crowded lobby as everyone clusters around the strolling magicians performing small miracles right under our noses, and not being able to get into the dealer's room in the half hour or so before the show (as an unregistered person). As for the Ring 50 people, I have attended several Ring 50 meetings and everyone there is open, helpful and friendly. I think I'll be popping in for the May meeting and seeing about joining up with this great group of folks! Thanks to Ring 50 for their efforts in producing this fine event. David Quidas "Q" p.s. Congrats to Eric Henning for his outstanding handling of the MC duties this year!

Thanks david for coming out for the gala show. we certainly appreciate your support and the the support of the 145 magicians who attended the lectures and supported our dealers. We do not at this time allow people to just walk through the dealer room to be fair to those that paid full price to attend. we hope you come to the full event next year.
This years show will be hard to top but we are trying. I takes many hands to put the event together and we are already taking reservations for next year at a super discounted rate. Michael |

As a delinquent member of Ring 50 (one who pays dues but cannot often make meetings - I have small kids), I gotta say the Magi-Whirl is an outstanding event. Last year's was one of the best conventions I've been to, and this year's promises to be even better.
Check it out, and we'll see you there: http://magi-whirl.blogspot.com/ |

As an Ex-Washington DC resident (actually Reston, VA), I miss the folks in the ring and miss the visits to Al's shop. The atmosphere and friendship may never be duplicated!
