It is helpful to also have anti roll models as learning what not to be like is helpful.
However I have been inspired by Nevil Maskelyne and Ricky Jay and too many to mention.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

Some modern marvels, not discounting the older legends though!:
--> Shaun McCree (Master of Misdirection ) --> Matthew Dowden (For suaveness and ramming hecklers comments up their noses) --> Simon Lovell (For EXCELLENT explanation) --> Jay Sankey (For sincere insight and dedication to he art) --> Eugene Burger (For his invaluable musings on the philosophy of magic.. this guy makes you think) --> David Regal (Because he's David Regal) --> Lance Burton (For his visual stunners) --> Brad Manuel (BEST EVER Australian Comedy Magician. In my opinion he doesn't get enough credit)
The rules of a sleight of hand artist, Are three, and all others are vain,
The 1st & the 2nd are practice... And the 3rd one is practice again - 'Magic of the Hands', Edward Victor (1940) |

- Slydini - timing and misdirection. Never really liked his "try to catch me style" but his method with coins was amazing.
- Mac King - I love how he always wants the audience to win. His do as I do cut and restored rope where the audience member's rope comes back together was just genius. - Michael Ammar - So smooth and cool. Shows how good slow can be. Kind of like the Eric Clapton of magic. - Tommy Wonder - love how he worked a routine to death. When you see his old card to box routine when he was younger and then how he did it later in life as a finsh to the ambitious card, you see the importance of continuous improvement. His attention to detail and timing of misdirection was amazing. - Jay Sankey - he takes a single simple effect and can twist it in so many ways. His magic is also very approachable. Typical Canadian... he is extremely nice. |

I have been mostly inspired by magicians who were alive rather than dead. With most, though, it's hard to tell which applies.
