Need to deliver a Children's Message this coming Sunday morning on Psalm 8. Any suggestions? Will be surrounded so angles are important.

O LORD, our Lord,
How excellent is Your name in all the earth, Who have set Your glory above the heavens! Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have ordained strength, Because of Your enemies, That You may silence the enemy and the avenger. When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained, What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him? For You have made him a little lower than the angels, And You have crowned him with glory and honor. You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet, All sheep and oxen— Even the beasts of the field, The birds of the air, And the fish of the sea That pass through the paths of the seas. O LORD, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth! |

Not much response to my post but prayer (not unexpectedly) saved the day.
I told the audience I would try to do an illustration from any book and chapter of the Bible, selected by two of the kids. In a chick pan, all of the pink slips had books of the Bible and all of the blue slips had numbers (for chapters). I had a young lady pick two of them, for practice, to show that there were many books available to select from, and a young man selected two chapter numbers. Of course, at that point, Psalms was not available to select nor was the number 8. Then I covered the chick pan, shook them up, and asked them to select one set for real. Of course, we got Psalm 8, to no one's surprise. In summary, I talked about the vastness of space and the myriad stars and how we can, in comparison, feel so very small, but we are children of the King. I then had three paper crowns and asked the young lady to select one, ala Mental Choice. She picked #2 and it was the only one that had writing on the inside that said “Yesterday, I had a feeling that you would choose this one!” I gave each child a crown as they returned to their seats. To my delight and amazement, many people in the congregation were baffled and asked how I knew she would pick #2! ;-) |

Thanks for sharing that routine. A great example of "keeping it simple".
peace, phill

I agree, neat idea. I came to this thread late but when I read Psalm 8, astonomy immediately came to my mind. It also reminded me of Psalm 19 "The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge." NIV.
At the risk of hijacking the thread, I wonder, what other effects/routines would fit nicely with this theme? I don't really have much in my repertoire that seems to fit and astronomy/creation. Thanks, Greg.
There are 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.
