Hi Folks,
I'm hoping someone here who is familiar with FrontPage may be able to offer advice. I decided to completely replace the content of my site, so I built a new site offline. I figured that when I uploaded it, it would just replace the existing website. Bup bow! I've now got a hybrid. It's basically my new site with the old site's hyperlinks still in tact, and those links actually take you to some of the old site's pages. Apart from 'don't use FrontPage', do you have advice on a fix? I'll give you my firstborn and a slightly used set of gozinta boxes....OK so you wont be getting the gozinta boxes. :) |

Before uploading your new site, did you delete all of your previous files from the site you wanted to replace?

What I did was delete the detail from the offline version of the old site and then uploaded it as a blank web. When I typed in the url there was no home page.
When I uploaded the new site, the homepage was fine, but the other pages had hyperlinks from the old site on them and oddly enough they also had a little animated gif that was on the old site. Then when I clicked on the 'old site' hyperlinks, some of them led nowhere but others led to pages from the old site. I've since gone back into FrontPage and created a new blank web and uploaded it over everything and then uploaded my new site again, still no bickies, same problem. I've contacted the guy who hosts the domain in case there's something he can do from his end. Only thing is the eclipse of the moon takes place with more frequency than his reply to emails. |

If I was in front of your computer it would be easier to probably find the problem but the easiest way if using an FTP client, like smart FTP and going in and manually removing all of old website first.
Also, although this probably has nothing to do with it, make sure to clear your browsers cache/cookies . When making changes to sites even though the changes have been made it may still show the old site when viewing. Refreshing the page does help. Are you using Front Page to upload directly? Sometimes if files are not saved correctly or if they get moved around or changed when uploaded it will not work correctly, that's why an outside FTP client is recommended. |

Majestic is right. Delete through FTP. Delete, not only the site but also the images, etc. Then upload fresh.

I currently use Front Page 2003 and I am in the process of Building A New Website. The easiest way to do this is DELETE your OLD Website and start all over brand new. If you want to use some of the old content just make a print copy of your old website before you delete it and then start fresh wipe it all clean. In Frontpage you cannot use any of your old pages as they will link with what you have in the old website and not the new. Just DELETE and Start FRESH.

Thanks guys for the advice, it is much appreciated.
In the end I contaced the guy who hosts my site, he just completely wiped everything from his side of things and I had a clean slate to upload the new one. Thanks again Billy |
