I have a Sword Thru Neck and the sword is in fine shape except the metallic tape covering the blade has shredded off (it's over 20 years old). I've been trying to find a metal tape to fix it, but have had no luck so far.
I did find something that looked good at Lowes, it's for taping ductwork, or chimney pipes or something, but the first time I tried it it wrinkled horribly. Any ideas? Jay Jennings

I think your sword may have been plated, or had a mylar coating. I have taken the same steel tape from the hardware store and removed the coating (with the numbers), and polished it up to a nice chrome=like shine. I did this for cage bars for a vanishing dove cage, but the same thing should work for the sword.

For many years I have used chrome contact paper. I get it by the roll at a hobby shop. You can also find it online.

The problem with shining it up is the tape is folded over, so I need something that holds the two side together. I'll check for chrome contact paper at the hobby shop -- thanks!

Understood that two sections go together with concave sides facing inward. Clear tape on polished metal is what I have seen used.

The tape on older swords usually peels the light coating of chrome off the metal as the chrome has a bias to holding it's shape whereas the metal is spring steel.
Try clamping a sharp razor in a vice at an angle and drawing the sword blade across it to strip the tape off the metal (as opposed to holding the blade still and running the blade across that)

The tape ruler idea works but it need mylar chrome tape on the faces and then heavy duty clear packaging tape on the edges. Look at automotive trim or craft stores.
