I support buying the original props from the original, authorized dealers.

I don't buy into the theory that it is "worth it" to pay less from someone not authorized to make it.

Some of the advantages of ordering it from the right dealer include doing the right thing ethically and morally (easier to sleep better at night), you get a better quality prop, you support the inventor financially and in spirit, your prop is built by the person who understands the trick the most, when you spend more you often get better quality of customer service, etc.

It's also better for your business to buy an original, because others watch you.

I know a nationally touring performer who puts together touring shows using a variety of performers. He has said that he won't hire certain performers because they buy knock off illusions. His money is only spent with performers who do the right thing. It pays to be moral. You might think you are saving some money by getting it built by someone else, however, it ends up costing you several thousands in potential bookings.

The same idea is true for people who refer other performers, and who care about moral rights to illusions. They might not refer shows to you, either. It can cost you business to buy / own knock offs.

If you can't afford an original, then don't put it in your show.
