I am working on a routine where the instructions recommend lapping an item to make it disappear. The item is a thin peace of wood 2”x 2.5” and very light. I was thinking of a pull, but I never pulled an item. I don’t have a reason in the routine to ditch the item in a pocket or else where at this point.
Any recommendations? |

The plan,
Setting, living room/small banquet room with low lighting, 10/20peple. Small table almost the size of a TV table will be used to hold props. Overall, this is a mentalist show, but this trick sets the theme of the show. Thanks, Doc |

Would a servante or t*pit be appropriate?

If it's too light, then it might not go into the topit very well.
For example, you can vanish a whole deck of cards with a topit, but I haven't seen anyone vanish just one card. Do you have a topit? |

Look into something called a Belly Servante. Tommy Wonder has plans in one of the books of Wonder. He used it to vanish a watch before it would reappear in a nest of boxes.

Is there anything on your table that it can be set behind without being seen?
Or place something, like a silk, over it. |

Thanks for the suggestions.
The rountine is the 5 gifts of life presented by Jeff McBride, so there are 4 other items and a box. He laps the last gift and that is not going to work for me. I have never messed with a topit, but I do have Ammar's dvd on the topit. I will investigate the topit idea further. |

Don't overlook the servante idea. I have a table cloth I use that has an extra fold in the back that works as a sevante. Don't remember where I saw this first.

When I was young I would safety pin a fold in the table cloth to make a pocket… my mom was not to happy about it.
Thanks, Bruce |

Sounds like a small bag servante would be the easiest thing to use. A topit can be missed quite easily. The bag servante would require a move that is similar to lapping. It could even be attached and removed in the course of the show, if it's attached with a strong magnet and/or sewn to the table cloth.

Nice ideas.
Yeah, the topit is probably not right for a light object. Ross Bertram had a magic pad with Welcome printed on it. As he held it up for the camera he was able to place the servant at the table edge. This was only a flap of the mat folded up and stiched at the ends and the middle. With this he did some great magic, into and out of the pockets. So just make your table cloth/mat 4 inches longer, double it and pin it together. Sounds like you can palm this thing and then touch your hand to the table. Also from Tommy Wonder; Recall the great deck switch where he goes to both his pockets looking for a pen, deck in one hand? When he finds the pen he's removing the deck from the other pocket. Works great! Now...leave a pen or some such in your pocket and ditch the gaffus when getting it out, or in putting it back. Also, if it's mentalism you must have envelopes about. You could slip it into one of them while making space on the table or going to the next prop. Also, Can the wood thing be a flat magnet (refigerator) with veneer or wood tone sticker on it? Then just have a large washer in some pocket and the wood will stay where you put it. Sorry that's all I got. I might think of something later. P |
