I mostly do card stuff and although I am a beginner, I feel that I am getting skilled with cards. I practice every day and I realize that it helps me technically but what I am lacking is real performance situations. I know that as important, or more important, than having good skill is having good presentation and patter.
My family has seen almost every card trick I know, and although it helps it doesn't compare to performing to strangers because your parents know that the magic isn't real. My next biggest problem is that cards aren't allowed at school for gambling issues. I am too young to drive a car and I can't join any magic clubs for that reason. I would love any advice to help me out of this predicament. I worry that I will stop being motivated because although practicing is great, I need some real time practice. Thanks for any suggestions, Lake |

Off the top of my head there's parties and places kids hang out after school. Your friends could come in handy here. Go to a mall with them and start showing card tricks at your table in the food court and a few people my stop and look. Time it right and bring them into the act.

Also, if there's a magic shop nearby, that's a great place to watch other magician's presentation techniques. At the store I used to hang out at, aspiring magicians were always demonstrating their newest techniques and effects on other customers.

Ask any and all if they would help with a new routine you're working on by watching you do it.
This lets them feel they are an important part of your magic.
You have to give it away to keep it.

There are a number of books you can get to help with presentation. Two that come to mind are "Strong Magic" By Darwin Ortiz and "Magic and Showmanship" by Henning Nelms.

This might be a perfect opportunity for you to diversify your magic interests. If you start learning some coin, rubberband and some ring magic you'll take care of most of your stated concerns.
The best way to learn these, especially if you have trouble getting to local shops and meetings, is by video and or books.
